RTi4 Crossover Rebuild

Crossover components needed:
9.3 uf capacitor
22 uf capacitor
.47 uf capacitor
3 ohm resistor
3.3 ohm resistor
Follow the directions under RTi6 Crossover Rebuild
Didn't do this one as I'm deciding to delegate these to surround sound duty but the crossover board is exactly the same - just need different values on the components.
Wires were really tight on mine  - you'll probably have to pull both the tweeter and woofer in order to get the wires connected. Don't forget to mark what wires go where.
9/64" hex wrench is required to get them out.
That 22uf cap can get large - be careful on what you order!

I was a bit confused on why there was a .47uf cap on this board and then confused again that it was the same cap/value on the RTi6. I've got a schematic for an RTi 70 and low and behold - another .47uf cap!
Polk is using a technique of putting a nicer but very small cap in parallel with a larger, but cheaper (read electrolytic) cap to get a better sound - or at least hoping to get a better sound.
An option on this crossover is to use an 10uf cap (caps in parallel are additive) or something close and leave the .47 cap out completely.
If you like the idea of putting a higher quality cap in here you could still use a 10uf cap in place of the 9.3uf cap and then put a .1uf cap of higher quality (ClarityCap SA or ESA series - or pick your favorite) in place of the .47uf.Aaron

i have the RTi4s and RTi6s.. thinking about testing a rebuild on a pair of 4s and then moving to the 6s at some point later on

Having rebuilt some Def Tech xovers...
I used Polks method on one pair (nicer caps bypassing a lesser one)
and on another I used a nice Auricap capacitors by itself.
No contest the Auricap SMOKED it. Absolutely demolished it- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

What were the lesser caps? -
