Yagin CD3 Tube buffer - what type of tube ?

I am not sure if this is the forum to write my inquiry.

I have a Yaqin SD-CD3 for about a month now. I have read about tube rolling.
What tube should I go to try this.
The manual is written in chinese, I think it comes with a 6N8P (2x) tubes installed in it.

It has 6SN7 / 6H8C / 6N8P written on the plate were the tube sits.

What tube will I need to get to try a tube rolling ?

6SN7 is the "american" designation, the 6H8C is the Russian designation, and the 6N8P is the Chinese designation, I believe.

The 6SN7 is a very nice tube and I'd use a NOS of those before the Russian or Chinese tubes.

The RCA "red base" 5692 (military version of the 6SN7) is an outstanding tube but they'll typically run about $125/pr or more. I use the 5691 (military version of the 6SL7) in ome of my tube amps and it is by far my favorite sounding.

Keiko, I think you need to add/ change your "surname" to "The Tube Librarian", like the Movies, cuz you know so much about tubes...

The RCA 'red base' tubes have thick black plates, 3 mica, 5 support rods. They were designed to go into war heads during the war era. They are very rugged can withstand up to 10g's. Later 60's tubes had gray plates and the mica's had a serrated outer ring rather than smooth.

I would say no..............they really aren't similar to 6SN7's at all. Pretty much the 3 I mentioned in my earlier post are what you can safely use.

Why not find a nice 6SN7 pair? They are an outstanding tube.................better one's are a little expensive, but they last a long time.

Also those in the link are designated with a "G" which means they are the old larger "coke" bottle shape and many times these larger tubes won't fit in the space physically.

Just look for a nice pair of 6SN7's and use the link Kieko gave you http://www.audiotubes.com/6sn7.htm for a great guide and he lists the equivalents you can use and it doesn't include the 6J5G

But there are lots of good choices out there. Try to stick with old stock from the 50's and 60's as I've found those to be superior to anything made today by a long shot.

Also anything from Amperex, MiniWatt, Philips is also quite good as well as regular RCA 6SN7. Prices will be all over the board if you look on Ebay.

The link Keiko and I provided from Brent Jesse recordings is a great seller and he's very knowledgeable as well as this seller http://www.vacuumtubes.com/6sn7.html Look at his list he has some more economical tubes as well. The used RCA's would be nice as well as the used Tung Sol's

6SN7 tubes are very popular and command a pretty high price, I was mistaken before the RCA 5692 red base tubes sell for $100-125 a piece.

P.s. also the CBS Hytron brown base 5962 he has used would be a great tube
