My pioneer has been working just fine but it seems that when I play a dvd with non dolby digital such as a workout video or a Boston legal episode, the audio will cut out once in a while during playback but if I change the audio listening mode to stereo it will be fine. What could cause this?

How do you have your BDP player hooked up? HDMI?

Check the connection - HDMI connectors suck for secure connectivity - mine are always sagging off and need to be snugged up every once in a while.

I don't have anything definitive to point at - you may want to try the basic troubleshooting approach - move the coax connection to a different input on your avr, switch coax cables, try a set of rca/analog patches, etc

I will have to try that. I am currently using stereo mode with no problems and any other dvd with actually surround sound coding will work just fine.
