Finding the DX7555 was a bit of a pain but well worth the wait. It was delivered yesterday. The Marantz arrived a couple weeks ago.

Wired both to my TX-SR707 using fiber optic cable to connect the Marantz and the Onkyo is hooked up thru the stereo cables provided. This will suffice for the break in period.

Out of the box the Onkyo is clearly the higher priced unit. Heavily built (17.3 lbs. vs. 11.2) with an 'all business' yet elegent face. The Marantz looks like, well ... a Marantz product. Other than a strange knob that selects tracks up or down (clockwise or counter/press to enter) I thought the Onkyo was laid out nicely. Operating a CD player isn't rocket work and both units are pretty straight forward.

The Marantz' tray opened smoothly with some mechanical noise. The Onkyo was both extremely smooth and very quiet, again, confirming its higher price point.

Both players take a moment too long to read the cd and make themselves ready to play, but patience isn't my greatest asset.

Neither unit added any noise to the music but each produced 'different' sounds, probably because of the different hook ups. Though I have to say, the Onkyo sounded exceptional and we'll do a true A/B in a few weeks, but have to admit I've already become attached to the DX755 after just one day.
