Race track speaker design

Has anybody listened to the Definitive Technology Mythos STS speakers, the ones with the racetrack shaped speakers? Since I have been seeing them advertised for what seems years now, I guess they sound pretty good, or at least a lot are being sold. What I am curious about is the racetrack shaped speakers. Looking at it, I see distorted sound waves coming from it. Doesn’t a speaker have to be round for accuracy? Apparently not, if these work.

Since I never see anyone else taking this approach, does that mean racetrack shaped speakers are patented, or they don’t work? Anyway, I was just curious if anyone had any experience with this design.

The racetrack shape is a result of the speaker trend to be tall and skinny to fit in with current trends and decor. As far as distortion caused by the shape, that is above my pay grade and maybe another polkie can chime in.

I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D
