so as some of you know im working on building my bookshelf system... is it ideal to mount bookshelfs high up on the rear of my ceiling?

as if i put them on stands down low they would really be a trip hazard.

any suggestions?

I believe the best position is the ear level.

Wall mount with B-Tech BT-77 mounts.

Best would be at ear level. I had a pair of RTi4's mounted as front speakers at around 5 1/2 feet off the ground. I did this while my kids were little.

I was looking for those and had trouble finding them with that name. Are they the same as these? They seem to be renamed "Pinpoint AM40". $59 and free shipping from J&R Music.

FWIW, I got to these via the b-tech website, so I think they are the same.

Yes, they appear to be the same.

Does anyone else have input concerning the height? I have a dedicated room for my theater, but it looks like I may have to put the speakers about 7 feet high in the room due to cosmetics/practicality.

Am I going to regret having them this high? I will at least have them tilted downward toward the seats. I am using the am40s.

Mine are mounted pretty high on the wall. I have 8' ceilings and the tops of the speakers are about 8" from the ceiling mounted on B-Tech stands with them tilted down. (the b-tech will only tilt about 5 degrees or so) the speakers are pointed at a spot about 2' behind and about 1' above my head. (obviously I am talking about rear speakers here)

you can see my setup in the showcase located here...
    Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
    Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
    Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
    Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
    Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms)

For surrounds? Nope. That height is fine.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

My rear speakers are mounted about that high, and are aimed downward toward the listening position. They sound fine to me. Let me know what you think of the RTi4 with those mounts, and how it all sounds. I may try that same combination.

These have to be the ugliest speaker mounts I've ever seen: http://www.bracketsandstands.com/PINPOINT_MOUNTS_AM10_SPEAKER_WALL_MOUNT_BRACKETS_p/am10.htm

But, if you like the industrial look, they're half the price of the AM-40... I'm not sure I can bring myself to do it, though. Maybe in the garage, not in the HT. :o

Sweet. I have the AM40 mounts for my rear and surround speakers (I have 7.1). I have four Monitor 40s.

Has anyone used these AM40s? Did you screw into the speaker box? I'm quite nervous about doing that....

From the description at Crutchfield: With adjustable side grips, the heavy-duty AM40 brackets from Pinpoint are perfect for surround speakers or other wall-mount speakers. The brackets hold your speakers securely without the need to drill or screw into the speaker's cabinet.

The AM10, on the other hand, require screws: The AM10 is attached to the speaker with wood screws providing a solid and secure mounting point.

Another reason the AM40s are probably worth the price...
