DLP's, Plasma's and the FCC

I was out lookin at some tv's, not really with the intention on buying anything at this time, and found out some information that I was curious about.
Apparently, at the end of this year, the FCC is mandating that all HDTV units have the HD Tuner built into the box. I didn't specify about FP units, as that wouldn't really work in my place. That kind of set off a flag for me since there are so many external HDTV tuners(is that the right word) out there since you'd be forced to accept the manufacturers detuner and not have the option to upgrade your external box. Is that a good idea? Also, for those that have subscribed to the HDTV services in your area, do you ever see the need to upgrade that part of your system?
I like the DLP RP for a few reasons. They take up less real estate, they're a LOT lighter to move around(the Samsung model is only 85 pounds), they have less parts to maintain (1 gun vs. 3 of typical RP's), and they don't have a short(end) estimated life span of 10,000 hours (like what plasmas's do).
I haven't really checked into the DLP units much, but the one that I've seen online is this Samsung.
I believe that I've seen a Sony DLP box like that as well, but haven't really checked much into it. I'd be very interested if Mitsubishi brings out their line and if it'd be available as anything larger than a 50" like that of the Samsung.
Basically, with the limitations being placed on the consumers at the end of the year with the forced HD Tuners built into the TV's, I'm wondering if it's better to purchase now or to wait until after that mandate has been put into place.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks......
