Hey all,

I knew it was coming and it finally did. I was just informed that my pay would be reduced again. Disapointed but not complaining to loud because I know there are a lot of people who have lost there jobs this last year. So Im thankful I am still getting a paycheck.
Bummer, but for the business to keep going I guess it needed to happen.
I was wondering how many of you out there have also had wages reduced during this economic low? And when will IT END! ---and the wage reduction wasnt because I get on this forum when at work---just for those of you thinking that.........
---any future speaker "upgrades" on Hold.
Have a great day-

I have lost 2/3rd's of my income in the past three years. I cannot wait for my wife to start contributing. It has been rough to say the least, but having a Doctor in the house is a prescription I can live with.

My employees have been working 30 hour weeks for nearly a year now. Things are picking back up a bit, but I am hesitant to believe it's going to continue because there's really no sign it's going to. Just as credit has started to flow again (businesses rely on short term credit for big, long term projects) the banking industry is getting punched in the mouth creating no incentive for them to loan money.

I feel bad for people who lost their job due to economic reasons or have had their wages cut. Most of those who have had their wages cut understand that it was necessary. Nothing gets my blood boiling more than people that have jobs bitching about not getting a raise, though. The gall of some people is unbelievable. I'll just assume they're ignorant and out of touch with reality rather than greedy.

Knock on wood, we are in the process of negotiations for a raise, since
we've not had one since 2007. Tough times, I know, but COLA are necessary for us, too. After Uncle dropped 800+ billion last year alone in "stimulus" $$$, we figured we might as well try to get our share, too.

Sorry Demi, but as far as I'm concerned, NOT getting a raise when everyone else does is the same as losing money, esp. if what you are bringing home does not buy what it used to. Am I bitching? I don't believe so, but you can decide for yourself about that; I do feel as if I am fortunate, and I'm thankful for my job anyway (the above is by no means guaranteed).

And FYI, my wife was laid off from her job back in June. Trust me when I say a reduction in pay would look damn good to her right now.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Why are you sorry? It's a good thing if you're a private sector employee and are doing well enough you can get a raise.

I was simply trying to comment in this thread without sounding like I was complaining, because I do agree with you in effect, some job is better than no job (see the last line of my previous post).

I am also rather fortunate that my own biz has not fallen off due to rough economic times; and although my continued success is at the will of the people I work for, happily, my business is perpetually self-sustaining. For now.

I've lost more than 50% of my income over the last couple years. Thank God, the wife is still making good money or I'd be living in a cardboard box at lower Wacker Dr. Her raises have been wiped out for the last 3 years and asked to work more to pick up the slack from countless layoffs. But hey, thats a common story all over the country. You would think the priority would be put to bringing back some jobs and it's been well over a year and nobody down in Washington seems to want to tackle it. Well, untill Brown won anyway. Lets see what happens this year, personally though, I don't see it getting much better anytime soon.

I'm fortunate to not have much change. Though adding the GF to my medical plan has lowered income considerably...

    With you there....

Although that didn't hurt as much as my employer making me foot the bill for ALL of the taxes on my medical plan instead of just my contribution like last year. Turns out to be another $600 or so a check that i get taxed on. If i don't work overtime, i am now officially making less than i did on my very first paycheck with the company years ago.

Nothing like seeing less than 50% of your gross check actually deposited into your bank account.

Yeah they charge me an extra $600 a year for her as a "fee" because she's on my insurance. Then they tax me on the contribution of $146/check, which at 28% is...a good amount.
On top of that I have to pay for the insurance itselfl. Fees on fees on payments. How lame is that?

Sounds like what i deal with on a smaller scale... Mine contributes a good $600 a check. I pay tax on that. THEN i pay my part, which for two of us is about $75 a check.

At least the policy is pretty sweet. But not as good as some accounts i work with. Which, in my opinion, is pretty screwed up, considering i WORK FOR MY INSURANCE COMPANY.
