Well I have decided to forget about monitor speakers and I am going to buy a pair of floor standing speakers, sometime. I just know I'll need a sub woofer if I go the monitor way and I don't want to go the "subway" now. I heard a pair of Monitor Audio RS6 and thought they were nice and for about $750.00 for the pair. I can pay for them and bring them home for 30 days and return them for something else if I don't like them or want to upgrade. With me you never know when I will want to upgrade.

I did see a few pair of Focal's in there but didn't have time to listen to them. Paradigms too which for some reason I am not fond of.

As usual I would like to read any suggestions on a pair of floor standers that are in that range, $750 to $1,000 max. I am keeping my SRS2's but want to try out other "new school" speakers. I gotta buy these local for obvious reasons.
Thanks always

The RS6 is one of the best choices you can make for under $1000. You can't go wrong with them really. PSB T65's are also supposed to be very good performers for under $1000.

Eh, I'm not a fan of Paradigm's sound either; not enough presence for me, if you know what I mean. For about a grand, give the B&W 684 a listen if you can find them. Excellent speaker; very musical. The imaging is spot on. This is the next speaker purchase I will make when the money is available. I went to audition a slew of towers, all the way up to $20k Snell speakers (just out of curiosity) and for whatever reason, those B&W's were the most pleasing to my ear. Just goes to show how subjective transducers really are.

I guess I gotta make that ride to, "the other side", South Jersey for a visit. I may just do that sometime but I gotta say it will not be the same there once I spent a couple days.

Hahah, i would definitely call that subjective. :D Not a big fan of B&W, but a huge fan of Paradigm. A lot of it depends on what's feeding them, though. The Paradigms i've had through here seem to be more greatly affected by the gear behind them than any other speaker i've tried. The Polks for example, didn't REALLY matter a whole lot. They would sound different, but usually good.

The Paradigms? You put the wrong gear behind them and it sounds AWFUL. I got lucky and ended up with a nice balance somehow. Haphazardly.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

I love speakers for this reason; each has its own sonic character and everyones brain processes the sound differently. It is very subjective. The only time I heard Paradigm speakers, they were in front of a Cambridge integrated and I did not like the sound. It wasn't terrible, just didn't click with me. The B&W's were being powered by a 200 wpc Rotel amp and sounded excellent, but they sounded decent hooked up to a Yamaha AVR too. It's all in how your brain processes the sound. I personally would like to try a piece of vintage equipment or tubes to see how different it sounds than my little 50 wpc NAD. My Dad has a 200 wpc Sansui G-9700, but he won't let me have it :( lol
