1080p resolution issue with Samsung B550

Hi
I've samsung B550, ps3 and htpc. I had one hdmi cable, so I was connecting ps3/htpc using HDMI/DVI port on TV. I bought 2 new hdmi cables yesterday, so I connected htpc using HDMI/DVI (1) and ps3 using HDMI2. I realized some difference in resolution when playing MW2, thought it was problem with cheap cable. I switched the cables, connected htpc using old cable to HDMI2 and the resolution changed. It doesnt look like 1080p.
Why is the resolution changing between HDMI/DVI (1) and HDMI2 ports? HDMI/DVI (1) is giving me best resolution.
Thanks

Sorry, but your question is as clear as mud. Might help if you told us what TV you are using and told us what resolutions you were actually getting from each device.

From what I take, your HDMI #2 port on the back of the TV is not giving you 1080P but HDMI #1 port is?
Or both giving you 1080P but the PQ on HDMI #2 is not as good as HDMI 1 no matter what you plug into it?(3) PS3's, Xbox 360, (2) Wii's and Nintendo NES

I'm using Samsung 40B550. I'm getting 1080p with Ps3 and HTPC if I connect to HDMI1/DVI port on TV. If I connect to HDMI2 port, resolution is not 1080p. I dont know what is it .. may be 720p? It is not as crisp as 1080p and windows icons are larger.

You need to change the resolution of your desktop on your htpc to match the resolution on the tv (if your video card supports it)"Dr Dunn admitted that his research could also be interpreted as evidence that women are shallower than men. Resolution is changing for PS3 as well. ps3/htpc look fine on hdmi1/dvi port.

Some tv's can have custom resolutions as a default per input. I would manually change the resolution on the tv using the remote (aspect ratio)."Dr Dunn admitted that his research could also be interpreted as evidence that women are shallower than men. Hit the display button your remote for the TV and it will give you the resolution it's displaying at.
TV's have different settings ie, Custom, Standard, Vivid etc and they allow for each input to have it's own setting. Check you settings for HDMI 1 and check them for HDMI 2. They are probably not the same.(3) PS3's, Xbox 360, (2) Wii's and Nintendo NES

I think you mean custom settings and not custom resolutions 720p/1080P. You can not change the resolution to a tv with the aspect button. I think you mean you can change the format like Full, Just, Zoom etc to fill the screen in which some will stetch the image like for 4:3 content and make it look like crap.
Aspect ratio is 16:9 or 4:3(3) PS3's, Xbox 360, (2) Wii's and Nintendo NES

First of all don't be throwing around Ps and Is when you talking about an HTPC, its 1920x1080 that is the resolution there is no point in saying 1080P or 720P it gets confusing and PCs deserve more respect. left click on your desk top (if your in xp) then go to settings and change the ress to 1920x1080. If your in you vista or FTW 7!! left click and go to display properties. It shouldn't matter if your using VGA, DVI, display port, or HDMI and it shouldn't matter how much the cables coast on a run that short. (unless of course you have hand shake problems)
As to the PS3 i don't know.
Also on the TV the native ress should be 1920*1080 so there shouldn't be any problems that i can think of going native to native should be easy as pie.Monitor 60s, CS10 front

You can hit your display info button and see what the exact resolution is for each input. I suspect they are the same. If it doesn't look the same, its probably because your custom picture settings are different (sharpness, color, brightness/contrast, + dozens of other settings). Go in and make the pictures settings the same and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks all for the inputs. Appreciate your suggestions.
I'm using 1980x1080 resolution on my pc and default settings on TV. I never changed anything on TV. Display info on tv is showing 1980x1080 60Hz for both HDMI1/DVI and HDMI2 ports. I'll try with HDMI3 or 4 ports when I go home.
Samsung user manual shows connecting DVD/Blu-ray players via HDMI2 or 3. From day one to got PS3, I was using HDMI1/DVI, I did not try with other ports. Size in Picture Options has 16:9/zoom/wide fit/screen fit. Mine should be on 16:9 by default.
I never realized ports would make a difference if they are HDMI. -
I have a PN550B, 50" plasma. I also play Modern Warfare 2 on mine on the PS3. My PS3 is hooked to my receiver.
I believe your problem is in the game settings. In the settings for Modern Warfare 2 you need to calibrate your screen for the game. I had to stretch my screen about 1-2 inches on each side to fit my screen. Try that.~Dan

MW2 did screen calibration when I first played it. I changed picture size to 'Screen Fit' from '16:9', so I'm not losing those 1 or 2 inches on each side when connect through HDMI2.

I'll have to check my model number when I get home but I think I have the same Sammy. I've never had a problem with display when changing from HDMI inputs. I do know depending what you have set on the remote such as screen display, letterbox, 16:9, zoom, strech, it will change how the pic looks. I've never had a problem at all regarding settings.
