Have you tried to download the latest software updates for the PS3 yet?

If you go to Settings>System Update, then it should have updates. If not, then I'm not sure what is happening.

    I'd try another Blueray.

    Process of elimination!

I haven't done it, but check YouTube - there should be quite a few videos out there.

I also see a lot of people on Craigslist fixing them for cheaper then what Sony asks for if you don't feel like trying it yourself. I can't imagine it being too difficult though.

I'm debating whether I should replace it on my second PS3 that has the same problem, or just use it as a media player streaming from PC.

No doubt its the drive. I know sony was allowing people depending on what model you have to trade the broken ps3 plus $150 and get a refurb 120G slim from them. Not sure if that is still going on.

You can get the PS3 BD drive off ebay for I think $70 and fix it yourself

You can spend $150 and have Sony fix it but you probably won't get back the same model you have now.

You can buy the new PS3 120G slim for $299.

    Good luck either way
