In Circuit City and Comp USA's ad this week they advertise a Panasonic progressive scan DVD player for $99.99. I don't remember ever seeing a progressive scan player for this cheap especially for a name brand like Panasonic. Wonder how good it is? Page two of the Circuit City ad I got a good laugh out of, the Bose 3-2-1 surround sound system for $999.99. What a frickin' ripoff.

HK has VMAx, and bose says their system that doesn't even work is revolutionary. Hmmm....

Back on topic, I don't think a brand name would risk their reputation with a shoddy product, but you never know.

I was not aware of Panasonics "hi-end" reputation. I think they make good shavers. Actually their are many low end progressive scans on the market for well under $300 buckers.
I say buy one for every TV in the house.;)

Panasonic is certainly not Onkyo for the same price, but compared to "Classic" or "Apex" or "Initial", they have a lot more to lose if they make junk.

JVC has a 130 dollar Prog. Scan DVD Player. Goes for 90 bucks on EBay.
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I've always had good performance from Panny video-wise. From dvd players to vcrs to camcorders.

    Cheers,

I've had **** luck with Panasonic VCRs and will never buy another one. I had to spend $30 to replace the remote after about a year, and in general I think the performance is much weaker than either Sony or Toshiba in the under-$150 range. I've been really disappointed, but it is our secondary VCR, running on a 13" TV, playing mostly kid's tapes.. so it serves.

For reference, I think you can substitute "Technics" for any Panasonic name plate....

I've owned an Apex DVD player with progressive scan for 16 months and have not had a single problem due to the machine (I **** up some settings and that was a pain for awhile, but that was my fault). I paid $140 for it back then and haven't had a moment of buyer's remorse since. We don't use progressive scan because we don't have the TV for it.. but it is there.

Take that for what its worth. I'm someone who believes that the law of diminishing returns kicks in VERY early on the electronics spectrum.
