There's a glass TOSLINK connector on Amazon for about $45 that supposedly carries optical better than the cheapo plastic. Personally, I've used both & couldn't tell any difference. You'd be better off with the Comp cable than TOSLINK.TNRabbit

I really like the quartz/glass toslink from Impact Acoustics. Extremely well made, and a fair price.
The Sonic Wave series Toslink:
http://www.impactacoustics.com/product.asp?cat%5Fid=901&sku=45456
I would use the "Sonic Wave" for critical audio applications, and the "Velocity" series is fine for a "better than most" inexpensive Toslink.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
I have found, IME, that Toslink delivers a very neutral presenation. I believe that because with Toslink you have no impedance mis-match issues to deal with (like coax and AES/EBU), and there is no electrical connection, they can deliver a more neutral presentation---as no cable related jitter from reflections can occur. Just my opinion, but I have reviewed this EXTENSIVELY. Treble seems smoother, and the background blacker.
I currently use coaxial from my transport because I like a little more flavor in the mix. The neutral nature of Toslink can be a bit boring/sterile.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

I used Toslink for a while. If using coax I will only use BNC though.
Toslink is immune to EMI and RFI but I haven't found that to be a problem on my system with BNC.For Sale 2019:

I use the Cables on Demand Ultra Series Glass TOSLINK to connect my PC to my DAC and its a great cable at $18 for 1m. I like that it isolates the electrical noise of the PC from my system and the build quality is fantastic.
I also use a Cardas High Speed Digital Transmission BNC cable from time to time, but that is less inexpensive... -

The Benchmark DAC PRE and USB no longer have the BNC input jack for coaxial (the basic DAC1 does), they are all RCA connectors now. I use the Belden 1694A 75ohm spec'd cable w/ 75ohm RCA connectors (Canare). I have been very pleased with this inexpensive cable. Actually the connectors and jacks make little difference, it's more about the integrity of the impedance of the SPDIF interfacing circuits--output and input--and how close to the 75ohm spec they are (or 110ohm w/AES/EBU).Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2
