Leroy - Maybe that's because people who go every day buy the good stuff....not even sure...how often to they get new stuff? Is it usually all put out Saturday morning, or every day, something may jump out there?

I found my pair of SDA2B's, a pair of rear channel bi directional polks for the rear and a Polk Audio Center channel with Lovan stands for the rear and a Lovan equipment Rack ($600 value) for the whole big whopping price of $30.00 at a thrift shop last summer. I pick up many great CD's and ocassionally Lps among other things there too. Sometimes the picking in Thrift Shops are better than Pawn Shops.

I'll agree to that. Our local goodwill bought a comuter and got service to check things out after a friend scored 2200.00 in Pioneer Elite stereo gear..42.00,
A 3300.00 chair for 100.00 and Kef Q90's for 47.00. This store is now the highest grossing Goodwill in the South East. If it's worth 300.00 you can bet the starting price will be 150.00. Every once in-a-while something will slip through.;)
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Regarding times, I asked at my Goodwill, and they said they usually bring out the "new" stuff for the day around 3-4pm. Good to know for the 'hot off the presses items' that go fast.

Every time I see this thread in the "new posts" list, I get Zeppelin's "How Many More Times" in my head.

Not that that's a bad thing, just sayin'.

    ;)

No way, I get my stuff at The Jersey Grand's Thrift Store at rock bottom prices :D:cool:

I've only been to a Thrift store once in recent times, and although I didn't find anything to buy, I was dangerously close to buying a lot of junk I really didn't need. I was "this" close to buying an antique Singer Sewing machine and table in bad need of restoration ($25)--That's when I got the heck out of there before I got in trouble with the wife.
If I'm going to get in trouble its going to be for audio. At least she knows I'm out of control in that area. ;)

Most of the GW employees have a department that they are responsible for and have sales budgets. Knowing their specific schedules can go a long way toward successful hunting. Estate and Yard sales are where it's easier to negotiate prices.

Do they have listings of estate sales online somewhere? I've never been to one, and don't know how it works.

Old fashioned gumshoe work helps. Check yellow pages for auctioneers/auction and give them a call. Get on their mailing list, etc. Many still use newpaper want ads.

I guess I'm between the "Not enough to post" and "What's a thrift store" in that I might get to one once a year. I'm now realizing that this is where the real bargains live and I'm going to start going often.

I need to find a big honkin' high quality 150 WPC or better tube amp hidden under some dust so I can get one of those "worth $2,000 but paid $50" deals!

    Snobs...

I buy LOTS of stuff at thrifts....

LP's...about 90% of mine come from thrifts....in the most couple months I've pulled about 100 minty RCA Living Stereos and other assorted treasures out of one particular honey hole....

Like anything else, it's hit or miss....LOTS of crap to sift through.

I also buy books at thrifts as well as a lot of clothes. I go through a LOT of shorts polo shirts.....I go to the thrifts in the better neighborhoods and score a lot of casual wear.

Unfortunately in these hard financial times, clothes are all I've been able to purchase at thrift stores. I might add that I got some really nice suits, jeans, shirts and my wife has purchased shoes (PU) at the thrift shops. I just make sure I get them cleaned thoroughly before wearing. Who knows what **** has been in those pants or armpits have been in those shirts.:D

Just came back from the Salvation Army and Goodwill; was looking for vintage gear, since I find myself getting more and more interested in vintage amps, particularly old Sansui's. Anyways, I came across a pair of Polk S6's for $15. Thought about it, realized I didn't need it and left it. Glad I did, since out of curiosity I looked em up and apparently they aren't that great. Thrift stores (and of course CL) have some great deals though if you look. These places got me into hifi; found my first pair of "real" speakers, Klipsch SF-1's, in new condition for $90.
