I have a friend that has a NAD 214 and a NAD power envelope 2100. He is selling both of them which one would you say is better and what do you think is a fair price for either?
Thanks,
Dirk

I've got a couple of the 2100PE amps, and think that they're quite nice--One thing to check is that NAD amps of that vintage often have problems with the output relays, which can cause low volume cutouts in one or both channels. They may not have the problem, or can be treated by cleaning or replacement if they do (One of mine occasionally exhibits this, haven't done anything about it).
No experience with the 214.
Here's a link that describes one repair shop's thoughts about the relay issue (see the 2200/2600/2700 paragraph) as well as describes a few issues with the 214. Not gospel (to me any way), but it's some info from a source that's familiar with NAD.

That said, I've enjoyed my NAD amps and think they're a decent, fairly economical intro into separate amplification.
Good luck.

I have the 214... very good sound. The 2100's are great too. There's a review out there for the 214.

I own 2 NAD 214, I run them bridged to my RT55i and they love them... They are well controlled and have more then enoungh power in reserve to drive these speakers... The NAD'S have really fine tuned the tweeters in my Polks they are alot more sweeter and smoother then they where.. The mid range drivers have come to life, no more muffled sounds just smooth and very well controlled...
I resently did a A/B conparision, running one amp in stereo vs two.. one amp did a great job, but I felt I needed more power so I bridged and my system came to life... I dont think you should pay anymore the 200.00 for 214 and thats mint... For the sound that these babies put out its a easy bargin ....
Nad complaments the Polks wonderfully......
If you decide not to go with 214 let me know I'll take it off you buddy's hands.... I am currently looking for another to run bridged on my center... Polks CSi40Polks All The Way

Thanks for all the info! I did pick both of them up, with the only real problem being that my audio cabinet that i just had built doesn't fit both of them. So, I guess my next question is which one should I use? I have the 214 hooked up now going to my center channel speaker. With my H/K powering my L/R. Since the 2100 has channels A/B could I run rca's from the L/R pre outs to the input on the amp and bi-Amp my fronts with lets say speaker A powering my highs and speakers B running to my mids? or would I be better off powering my center channel? Sorry if that does't make any sense.
Thanks again for all the help and info,
