Hit Blockbuster right when the opened the doors this morning and right before the second of three major Pacific storms hit. Landed this 3 on Blu-ray to watch today, haven't seen any of them. All rated R, all action...PERFECT! Gonna lock myself in the HT with some Stout Ale and relax.
If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

I gave up on online rentals, they just can't deliver Blu-rays like being able to walk into a store and get it. Netflix was horrible and while BB was better I still had to wait for new releases. No thanks.

I get 5 in store exchanges for free a month, so if i end up with a dry spell, or i see that all the new releases say "long wait" i just go in and get it.

At the rate i rent movies, the online rentals saves me a pretty chunk of change. It would be cheaper for me to rent them all on on-demand rather than just go into the store every time without the monthly plan.

Of course... this may all change once i get a Bluray player. ;)

I love Netflix, but I can understand why some people would rather be able to walk into a store and pick something up immediately. That being said, I can't recall ever having an issue or having to wait on a movie.

Blockbuster is the devil and I refuse to hand them my money, and with Hollywood Video gone I don't have much of an option anymore. Redbox is nice, but no Blu-Ray.

Let us know what you think of the movies Ron.

Pandorum was outstanding and is worth a purchase if you like sci-fi/horror flicks. I'm swinging by to pick my copy up after work.

Whiteout was just okay. The trailers made out like it might be a creature flick, but it's just a straight-forward suspense/mystery. Still, Beckinsale's always worth watching.

Gamer was good dumb fun. Not a buy, but surprisingly decent (though Michael C. Hall seems way out of place).

Finally got around to watching all three of these, while all are good one time rentals and enjoyable, none are worth the price of a purchase. Although, Whiteout with Kate in tighty-whities might just push one over the edge..mmm, mmm, good.

We watched Gamer last night. I wasn't expecting much, but enjoyed it. Didn't know that it was made by the guys who did Crank(s). It had some elements of their offbeat sense of humor, a little light on script content, but an entertaining action flick none the less. Michael C. Hall stole the show IMO. His Sammy Davis impression and the dance number were aces for me. Talented guy.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B

I thought Gamer was awful and I want my $5.99 back.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

LOL, Mark I passed on Gamer when I was at Movie Gallery the other day. Saw Pandorum and Whiteout over the weekend. Pandorum was ehhh, but Whiteout was actually pretty darn good IMHO.

    Me too.

Oh well, i'm one of those people that liked 2012...so it kinda figures i'd like Gamer!

I was expecting more comedy out of 2012 with whats-his-name being the main actor, but there wasn't hardly anything.

I do need to grab Pandorum, not so sure about whiteout though...i'm more sci-fi than straight up mystery/thriller.

Whiteout was probably the worst film I've ever seen with Kate Beckinsale in it. Gamer had a interesting (but hackneyed) concept that was executed with considerable flaws. Pandorum disturbs me (haven't seen). =0

I thought Pandorum was really good. I'm not much of a sci-fi guy because it's usually not a genre that's done well, but I do like horror flicks and this one was done very well.

    Definitely worth a rental.

"Gamer" is just unwatchable! The action was nothing to marvel about, while the storyline just bored me to death. Two thumbs down.
"Pandorum" had potential, but also missed it. It is a good rental, but not enough to keep in my collection. "Star Trek" is still the best sci-fi movie in 2009, to me.
