Help me with a TV

Well I'm in a tad bit of a situation here. I have a Panny PT60DL54 RP DLP TV. It's native 720p, however it has performed flawlessly for the past 5 yrs. Anyway the TV is dead, I think it's a bulb problem. In the case it is, I have to pay 289.00 for the replacement part. My question do you guys think its a smart move to replace the lamp or should I just splurge the 1300 bucks for a new Plasma or LCD in a 55-58 inch. What do you guys think would be a power move?

Splurge! But, go Samsung LED not LCD!

He's going to alot more than $1300 for a Samsung LED.
Is $1300 the highest you're willing to go? I'd definitely get a new tv versus trying to replace the bulb. Both Samsung and Panasonic plasmas are great for your price range. -
I replaced a Samsung 50" DLP 720p with a Panasonic 50 1080p and can't believe the difference in picture quality. The Panasonics are cheap, too. Good luck.

I would get the biggest Panasonic Plasma you could afford.
-
+eleventy billion on the biggest Panny Plasma you can get. I've just got a 42" Viera, and when i go through the huge displays at Frys or the like, i am no longer impressed.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Well I can go as high as 1800 I guess. I just don't want to spend a ton as the TV is only used for cable and the Wii. I will definitely shop for one when I get back home. Still out of town on business. Thanks for the feedback gents.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Why not just get an Epson 8100?

Plasma's and Wii's don't get along.:) -
If its just a bulb, do some research and you can probably find a replacement for around $100 shipped. AVSforum is your friend.

Well I know it would seem the obvious, however if it is worth the upgrade then I would put the money toward the new screen.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Fix the TV!
Do some research on prices for bulbs on web, I'm sure they're cheaper there. When you fix the TV, sell it. Say it has a brand new bulb. I'm sure you could get some good money for that thing because of the screen size.~Dan

Go for a new Panasonic plasma. The 54 inch S1 series is a great value, unless you wanted to spend more money on a G series or the high end V series.HT basement room:

I scored the 54" Panny plasma. Very nice image, just from playing a SD DVD on my A2 Toshiba. Not as much screen as my 60" but it sure is gorgeous. Pics or it did'nt happen right.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I am with the bulb supporters on this one. I have a 60" Sony SXRD that I have had for a little over 4 years now and I have replaced the bulb in it twice. I am still as happy with it now as I was the day I bought it. Don't get me wrong, I would love me a Pioneer Kuro 60", but don't have the $3,500 laying around. I just bought a bulb for my TV in Nov. and even after I spent almost as much for shipping that I paid for the bulb it was still under $150. IMHO, it would be better to buy the bulb to get your set back up and running and save up the $ for the set you really want, rather than to spend $1,800 on a quick fix.

Here is a link to Froogle search for your bulb. $289 must have been direct from Panasonic, because there are a bunch on Ebay and other sites for as low as $95 w/ free shipping.

Congrats on the new TV. When you have time, explain what you think are the differences in PQ for others who may be looking. To me, it's about the color being more real, has more depth to it, and no motion blurr for sports.HT SYSTEM-
