4 letter minimum on searches...

Is it just me or does this 4 letter requirement suck a$$ considering the world that we all live in? I realize that we'd get a hell of a lot of responses from just a 3 letter search like DVD, but i think that we're pretty bright to specify it a bit further. I've sent an email to the moderators requesting the 3 letter searches to be allowed and never heard anything back.

Is there some grand reasoning as to why we can't have any 3 letter words/abbreviations allowed?

DVD, MP3, CDR, DD, DTS, AVR, CES and the list goes on.......

Anyone else wanna make the request official here?

EDIT: SVS, B&K, B&W, etc...

    Yes it sucks, esp considering the 3-letter (or less) Polk associated words.

    How sad that I didn't include a single Polk model.....I was focusing on my other search.

    Anyone know where the thread is that discussed the new Denon DVD player at the CES show? I know it had a link to a site reviewing it and talking about it, but I can't seem to find it using "VEGAS DENON" so who knows........

    I saw your edit on the first post, just a quick hint, if you want to find all the B&K threads, search on 'Mantis' for the username, or just try the word 'allday'. ;)

    I think everytime I have done a search, I have wanted to use a three letter word or abbreviation. I would enjoy this feature as well.

    Use a * as the variable.

    *mp3
    *SDA
    *DVD

    And so on. It works.

    Most tech savvy folks know that * is a variable in almost any search string and can be used in a situation like this. I'm suprised Russman didn't say something.

    Now start hittin that search button!

    Great tip on using the "*" wildcard, but *WTF's ( :D ) the deal with not allowing 3 letter searches??? Overload?

    I could be wrong but I think thats pretty the reason. For example if it were allowed then a search for "ack" would return jack, mack, sack, back, slack, black, and so on and so on.

    It's kinda silly though. Because a search for "*ack" will return the same thing.

    Maybe Justin can shed some light on the situation and tell us if I'm right or wrong.

    Your first scenario is incorrect. the "*ack* would return those words that you listed though.

    It's just ridiculous that you can't search for some of the big name items because of this limitation. Searching for "*B&K" as a search entire post brings up everything, and seemingly even what is in people's signature files. However a "*B&K" search for titles only returns nothing, even though there were others listed on the other method. I don't think that the * is helping the situation. It may be a workaround, but if it's adding 90% extra garbage to your search, what's really the point?
