FXi4/6 Questions

Need suggestions for rears in a 5.1 system. Room dimensions are 37'Lx15'W. I have Polk RTiA5's & a CSiA6 center. Listening/viewing area is 12' from front wall. I would also like to hear from FXi users regarding their opinions on whether FXi's are going to be effective given my room dimensions. If FXi's are effective, how far from rear wall would you suggest placing them. Would you use them in bipole or dipole mode. Getting different opinions from Polk tech support so I need input from someone who has their system set up in a similar sized room. Due to my room config, I can locate FXi's either 10 behind my listening area or directly across and maybe even 1' in front of where we sit. Wondering if they will be effective if we locate them across from where we sit? If we place them 10' behind our sitting area, it will be 15' to the back wall and 10' to our ear. Wondering on how that placement would sound. Given the distances the surround sound has to travel, are the FXi6's the way to go. For the speakers to be at the recommended ear height, it requires them to mount in the middle of the side wall instead of towards the top. Do FXi's have any vertical fanning feature so they can be mounted near the 8' ceiling. Think they may look pretty obtrusive mounted in the middle of our side wall. Thanks

Hey Murray1,
One suggestion I have is to use speaker stands, and position your side and rears in the best place. When not in use they can be moved to side walls out of the way. Another suggestion is to play with the speaker setup. On my pioneer I can adjust the gain on each speaker manually, or of course let the automatic setup do it for me. I'm still not sure which speakers I'm going to end up with for the sides and rears. I'm using the FXi A6's for rears right now, and the A4's for sides. And the Bipole/Dipole question is still not clear to me. Sure am hoping one of the Polk Gurus will chime in here before long! Good luck with your system.

If they are not going to be mounted on a wall, then I would suggestion getting some bookshelves.

FXi's are designed to have reflection of the walls. Without that in place, I think you may loose a lot of what they were designed to do.
