Well I picked them up about an hour ago, and hooked them up to my Onky Receiver. 1 speaker has sound from each of the mids, although seems to be weak . Both speakers do not have any sound coming from the tweeters (2 per speaker), and one speaker has no sound at all in the mids. I guess I am looking at some serious cash to get these back to working condition? I figured 6 new mids, and 4 new tweeters, prob around 600.00. Does this sound right to anyone??

Hahah, did you get that $60 pair?

I think you could do it for quite a bit less than $600 if you keep an eye out or have some of the SDA guys rummage through their spares.

In all honestly, i'm not sure if i would personally spend $600 refurbishing those things, but that's just one man's opinion, and you know what they about THOSE... :D
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

I know, feel like an dumb **** now, but I could take my time to restore them, still might cost more than they are worth, but I am dying to find out what they sound like when re-furbished.

Nah... it wasn't a dumb buy. I would have picked them up. They were worth the $60 even if just for the cabinets. But i would take the time to try to grab the replacements for cheap rather than just spending a boatload of cash on what is normally considered the "lowest SDA." (Is that like the worst Ferrari? :p )

I think with some help of people here, you could come in well under your original figure.

What drivers are we talking about again? I thought the tweets were SL1000s, don't know if there's an available upgrade for that or not.

Have you tried switching the "bad" drivers into a good ones position, to see if it's really the driver, and not the XO/wiring thats not working?

Wow... if all those drivers are bad, I'd be shocked. My SDA 2's had both of the SDA drivers locked solid when I bought them. Cost me $100 total to replace them. I'm looking to drop another $100 into them to get the updated tweeters.
    Ludicrous gibs!

It appears the crossovers are messed up on at least 1 of the speakers, I took out a mid and both tweeters and tested them by pulling the speaker wires from one of my Paradigms and 1 tweeter and the mid woofer worked. When I put the speakers back in the SDA cabs, tweeter did not work, nor did the mid. HOWEVER 1 of the mids on the speaker was strong.

Well, looks like a call to polk tomorrow to see if I can still get crossovers for these and how much they are, I am not very good with internal electronics, so it may not be worth it for me to try and buy the parts to make the crossovers, plus I would want like new mids and tweeters for these if I was going to re-build them right. Any help would be appreciated. I want to replace 5 of the mids, and all 4 tweeters, and both crossovers. Otherwise they will be made into 60.00 firewood.

I'd rebuild the crossovers, or get someone here to do it for you, with better components. You'll thank yourself later. If you're going to rebuild these things ground up, spend the money once. ;)

Ok, here is the deal. Anyone in the Charlotte, NC area care to help me with these? Your services will be paid of course, I just want to do them right. I will refinish to cabinets with the help of a friend....thinking cherry veneer.

If 5 MW drivers are bad, I'd say it's not worth it unless you can find them for a cheap price. I'll pay you $5 each + shipping for the 5 bad MWs. Polk still sells the blade/blade IC cable that you'll need, which BTW, without it, results in several drivers not receiving any signal/ power. Ben & others advocate using only one tweeter per cabinet for better sound, so you might want to consider that before getting four new tweeters.Good luck with em, and drop me a PM if you're interested in selling the dead MWs.:)

EXCELLENT NEWS!! When I ran some wire connected to the interconnect inputs, I got sound out of most of the drivers. 1 Tweeter in each cab worked, and out of the 3 mid woofers, I think 3 may need replacing. As I already have 1 mid as a spare from my purchase of Monitor 10s early in 2008, I may need only 2 mids. I really do nned to know how to make a proper interconnect cable for these as I feel it will work better than just jamminf some wire in the slots in the back.

I ordered the cable from Polk. The rep on the phone told me they actually make the cable and then ship it out to me. We will see how they sound when I hook up the cable, then I will be able to tell how many mid drivers I need.

would it be ok for me to put these in my SDA IIs? I think they would fit and would be a cheaper solution to my dead mid woofers as replacements.

Those are not a match, and not cheaper than buying new from Polk with your CP member discount.

well, I figure I need 5 new mids and at 48.00 each, that comes to 240.00, not including tax. Plus I need at lease 2 tweeters at 48.00 each. While the mids may not match, would they still sound decent?

Since I already have 100.00 invested in these, I am just going to buy all new mids and a pair of sl2000 tweets and be done with it. I am going to refinish them as well, sand them and put on some nice veneer. Good springtime project for me.
