They'll make good surrounds for someone with a vintage surround sound system.

I really don't know what I would do with them but $30 seems more then fair.

for $30 i would. As long as they work it is a decent deal. You can not get a pair of book shelfs for less anywhere really.

They would make good garage speakers or even a gift for someone else.

I would. You could use them in your office or as stated above a garage setup or just hold on to them and set the kids up with a rig. That is what I did with a set of Yamaha bookshelves that I've held onto for 25 years. Not bad sounding bookshelves either and my 12 year old loves showing off his bedroom rig.
