They've got the damn place at a stupid temperature. Feels like 66. Just enough where i get cold after about 10 minutes in my t-shirt. But also sweat my **** off with my coat on.

****.

Why can't they turn the heat to normal levels just for me? Come on now... i was nice enough to come in again and do their ridiculous projects on a ridiculous time frame for them, so at least make me comfy.

Guess maybe i'm just grumpy again. I need a day off.

    I feel for ya.

I've had to come in on weekends too - cuz schedule is 'king' for our Customer's projects.

Hopefully your co. makes it up somehow?

Maybe it's because you spend your time posting on the Polk forums, instead of working. Just a thought.

Oh, they're making it up to me right now. We're all good until they start bitching about all the extra pay they have to give me. At that point, then the projects don't get done.

I've worked through the last two weekends in a row, and tomorrow is likely the only day i will have off all month, and that's only really because it's mandatory. It's going to be near impossible to meet my deadline on the two projects i need to do without having tomorrow to work as well.

And i wish this damn data miner would hurry up. I've got nothing to do right now but twiddle my thumbs for another projected 10 minutes, and that's a bit irksome.

We've had this discussion before. Thanks for your concern though. Despite your thought that i waste the company's time by being on here right now, i'm still sitting at a hefty 263.7% of production standards today. Not much i can do while i'm waiting for another set of claims to be generated.

This is how corporate America rewards you. You do a good job, you get more work. If i did the bare minimum, i'd be at 100%, and i wouldn't be here today. Just a thought.

I hear you there. Luckily due to the poor economy, my company is allowing absolutely no overtime. Haven't had to work a weekend in over a year.

They took everyone off salary by dividing it by 40 and paying hourly instead. That way they could save money by sending them home when there's a slow day. Since I have never been sent home, it works great for me, less hours, same pay!

OH man.... :p If they did that to me, there would be some problems. Nothing would get done, and my base "salary" is nothing impressive. I make up for it with the ridiculous overtime i log. I made something like $15k last year in overtime alone, and based on the changes that came through for Jan 1st 2010, i'm going to eclipse that mark by July.

There's technically no overtime budgeted for our unit this month, but i've got orders directly from the regional directors to do whatever is necessary to get this stuff done. Yeah, i'm in a wierd position. My manager doesn't have any control over me anymore.

Now if i could only get them to pay me based on production, then we'd really be talking. One of the few things i used to like about working at RCI.

We were sold last year and now the new owners want to cut costs to get a better bottom line. Easy way to cut costs as we know is to let good people go. People left, like myself ,work weekends to make up for the ones let go :(
Can't complain though since I still have a job,for now.:)

Yeah... definitely thankful to still have the job, and i've got great security, since i'm the only one in Operations right now familiar with the new process put in place for 2009. If they let me go, they don't even have anyone to train how it works, and everything will go down the drain. I'm just getting all the overtime because i stick my nose where i don't have to. Looks good on the resume for when i try to get a Business/Benefits Analyst job in the next couple years.

Regardless, our company is expanding, we just hired 4 new people in our unit, and stock is going back up to where it was a couple years ago. :)

You're lucky. My company did not pay overtime to salaried workers. Switching to hourly was a plus for me, but a negative for most who no longer get even 40 hours.

I am glad to hear that things are going good for your company Ben. In times like these it is tough. I laughed when I read your op. I sit right next to a window in my office where I get cold. But I have a ceiling vent right above me so when the heat kicks on I get too hot. Just can't seem to win!

Well, i'm paid hourly, but they keep referring to how much i make as a yearly salary. Base starting wage here was advertised as $24k or something like that, but i guess they figure that based on hourly wages? Meh. Whatever. I'm hourly. :p

It's not that 66 is cold... it's just that during the week, it's warm enough in here that a t-shirt is fine, no matter how cold it is outside. Maybe the 4000+ bodies that are normally in here keep things toasty.

If i had dressed appropriately, i would have been fine. It's just a little chilly for me to be sitting on my **** wearing a t-shirt. :o

I tried that. Saved less than $15 a month, although I do have R60 insulation or so in the attic. For $15 I'd rather be comfortable, so we do 64 at night, 69 during the day if we're home, 64 if we're at work. It's probably only on 69 six or 7 hours a day, ocasionally bumped up to 70 or 71.

Same here, except that our thermostat is wonky... it likes to go about 5 degrees warmer than it's set, and then go down and hit threshold again.

We have it set at 70 during the day, and i just turn the damn thing off at night, otherwise i wake up soaked in sweat multiple times all night. I suspect we're paying most from our electricity bill from the stupid water heater. Apartment thought it'd be fun to install a showerhead that'll drain the whole heater in 10 minutes flat.

Our electric bill is actually lower in summer when the air conditioning is running almost full time. Not sure how that makes sense.

You could always get a new thermostat, I got a Hunter fully programmable for about $20, installed in less than 10 minutes, including programming. Never have to touch it, unless I want to bump the temp up, and then it turns it back down for me automatically. When you move from the apartment you can put the old one back in.

Must be colder here. If I turned mine off at night, it would be under 60 by morning.

Interesting... i'm going to definitely check that out, i appreciate it. :)

It's not that it's really hurting my bill much, just that the fluxuations are really annoying.

Eh, when we turn ours off, even when it was in the single digits last week, it'll get to about 64 overnight. This place is sealed REALLY well, and we're on the top floor, so we get heat soak from the apartments below us.

Hmmm.... Buy a little electric heater and close your door. Problem solved. :p

Usally what happens is that most modern larger buildings are set up and monitored by people on computers for their controls. For example one building I take care of has an adjustable setting for when its occupied and when it's not, from 5 am to 10 pm the building is considered occupied 7 days a week from 10:01 pm to 4:59 am it goes into dormant mode and it allows the temp to drop to 60 degrees. perhaps talk to your maintenance dept head to see if he can adjust your room only for the weekends :)

I like the computer monitored controls because I can sit at home and tell at a glance whats going on with the building and make any needed changes in temp, airflow, control any thermostat etc, plus I get paged if there is any alarms automatically.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

I wish we could have those type of things where I work, they fear though we would burn down the building if we used them.
I have a similar problem that Ben has except its ALWAYS cold to me in my building, I tend to wear sweaters even in the summer time because the building is so damn cold, but then again I don't like to even wear shorts until its like 90 so I'm crazy.

It's 65.7 in my dorm room right now...and if I had to label it as cold or hot, I'd say it's more on the warm side than the cold side. I seem to like it around 64 or so. Though I did just get over bronchitis, so I'm not quite as resilient to the cold as I was before, or so it seems to me.
