Is my sub broken?

Hi,

I recently purchased a PSW110. The unit is connected to Onkyo 707 receiver.
It seems that the unit only occasionally operates. I even tried playing tracks of hip hop music and automated operating light (turns from yellow to green) would only sometime come on. Are there some settings I should try on the receiver and the sub?

FWIW, my front speakers are monitor 70s, the rears as 30, and the center is a CS2. The Monitor 70s are bi-amped.

You have it connected via LFE, right?

If do you mean do I have the knob on the back of the sub set to LFE that is correct. Is there something else I should check?

Is that how it's connected to the avr, though? Single RCA from LFE/Sub out to the LFE/Sub IN on the sub itself?

Yes, that is how I have it connected. BTW, I used an radio shack speaker cable I had lying around. Could that be the issue?

Well... now we're getting confused... :p

You can't really use "speaker cable" to connect via LFE. What exactly did you use? Speaker cable or an interconnect with RCA terminations?

Sorry for the confusion. By Radio Shack speaker cable I meant a cable with RCA jacks for left and right channels. This is the only cable used to connect the subwoofer and only the jack marked LFE is connected. The receiver has 2 subwoofer outputs and I have tried both with no change in operation.

I think I got it figured out. The problem was that when I used Audyssey to set the speaker levels I had the subwoofer volume at max. This resulted in very low output to the subwoofer under most conditions. When I set the volume to 1/3-1/2 the receiver increased the nominal output to the subwoofer which appears to have cured the issue of providing signal to the subwoofer unit.

    Thanks for your help,

    Jerry
