Extended Warranties

I'm curious if you have ever bought an extended warranty, and if so, for what? Have much have you spent, and never used? In my head, I've calculated a savings of approximately 3,000 dollars in my life having never bought one. Curious, if you do, why.

I usually only buy warranties for high priced items.

    * Both Pioneer Plasmas only because it's so expensive to fix if broken.
    * Leather couches which covers any rips, cuts, or burns for 7 years. Well worth an extra $200.

I usually don't for speakers or receivers because I usually don't keep them long enough past the companies warranty.

Most other audio gear I buy used.

47'' Vizio LCD added 3 years for aprox 25.00. Added 1 year to Panasonic blu-ray for 9.00. It was cheap enough so why not. It saved my a** on a Panasonic T.V.that went goofy after manufacture warranty ran out. That was over 15 years ago and looks good and running like a champ.

I have for a few various things. One was for my TV which didn't really need to do as haven't had a problem with it but it was expensive enough I wanted to make sure I had my butt covered. Other things not really, probably saved myself a bunch by not going that route. And I did it too on the bed I got too, in 10 years or something if my mattress gets depressed by some amount I get a new one for nothing. wasn't much extra, like a few bucks so didn't really hurt.

Most of the time I just pass, very few electronic things fail to make it past the extended warranty period and if they fail its usally within the first year has been my experience. for an automobile depending on what it covers it can easily be worth it.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

i only buy exteneden warranty on high ticket items like used cars.

I've needed the extended warranty on two used cars. and i'm glad I had it then. for small ticket items. i don't bother.

I got one for my truck and thatnk the Lord I did. It has saved me over $4,000 for a new transmission and various "minor" repairs that add up quickly.
