I am looking for (1) rt1000i powered tower in black. I am new to the Polk Forum so maybe someone can give me some guidance here. I bought a pair new around 2000 and now one is making a loud constant humming sound. Not sure if it can be repaired or if I am better off finding a replacement. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I live in central Florida.
Thanks

welcome to Polk, GS. Sorry it is a problem that got you here...
I don't have one for sale, but I think you might be able to isolate/ trouble shoot the issue without just buying a new speaker. I am sure more experinced members than I will chime in later.. :D

Have you tried disconnection the jumper, and see if the humm is coming from your system (top drivers) or from the built-in sub?? Are you sure it is not a ground loop humm? Did you change something recently?

I seem to remember other ppl having some amp issues that related to the built-in sub amp in other models. Have you contacted Polk Customer service? They are really great about helping ppl trouble shoot issues, and they can also give you parts, if that is what it takes...Remember to mention you are a Club Polk member, they usually help out with discounts and free shipping...

Hi and thanks for the response. I did not move or change anything before the problem started. Soon after the problem started, I did move and now they are sitting in the corner gathering dust. When I plug the bad one in to an electrical outlet (not connected to the receiver) it instantly starts humming. Its a very loud hum or buzz. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks

Sounds like the amp, Maybe a ground loop hum? Try plugging it into a different outlet. If that doesn't work, give Polk CS a call on Monday. They will help you out. Usually you can ship them just the amp, and they can repair it/ or replace it.

I had the same problem a year ago. I shipped them just the amp, and $75.00 later, it came back working just fine....

I am also experiencing the same buzz, however I know that mine is coming from the built in sub, because it stops when I shut off the sub using the switch in the back. Just curious, ultimately what was your problem?? The buzz I hear is not a ground loop problem because it is not a "hum".

    Thanks, Ken

Ken, the built-in sub amp has the problem.

Call Polk CS, get RMA number and get it repaired.
