So, i stumbled onto a pair of these, and managed to get em for free...do any of you guys know anything about em? From what I've read they're fairly hard to drive(something like a 600ohm impedance), which brings me onto my second question: do any of you guys know of any cheap cheap headphone amps that will do these phones justice?
Thanks guys

Figured I'd take a picture of em quick...didn't want to take them off my head long enough to bother before:D Running them off the headphone jack on my Yamaha rx-500u is sounding surprisingly good as well.

Hello Bob, I have a pair like those. There are 8 electrostatic speakers per side and there were apparently many models made with the same model number, each one with a different sonic signature. It looks like your model was manufactured around the late 80's and an aftermarket or upgraded felt cover was installed. The standard cover was made of the same material as the boot at the base of the cover.

I can not offer any advice on the headphone amp as I have no experience with them. The boys at head-fi.com [or whatever that site is] should know more about what headphone amp to use that will pair nicely with the AKG's.

I've read good reviews of the HiFiMAN EF2 USB Headphone Amplifier and I might be getting one in soon to test. I've also heard good things about the ZERO 24/192 DAC Headphone Amp.

Were you looking for tubes or SS?
