I have two of those subs just sitting around and would like to see if I could design a horn for them. Does anyone have the specs Thiele/Small( fs, qts,... ) of this woofer? Or atleast know where I could get the info.

Sorry. All of the specs of Polk's drivers are proprietary. You would have to take them for yourself. :)

The specs are only important for the sealed chamber the driver uses behind the horn. The horn itself is based on throat size, and cutoff frequency as well as horn type/slope.

Your best bet is to look at horn design, build one that will fit your space without cutting off too high, and then have a larger rear chamber that can be adjusted by putting bottles of water inside of it. Tune chamber size by ear.

edit: if you have a good quality multimeter, a computer with WinISD beta(for the tone generator), an amp, and some resistors; you can plot the impedance of the woofer and find most specs from that. You'll also have to add a known weight to the woofer cone and test again to find Vas. Or you install it into a sealed box of a known size, measure the new resonant frequency, and derive Vas from that. I like the weight method because it's quick, and works great for small signal measurements. When testing the impedance of a speaker, the cone should not be visibly moving. The power should be no more than 0.1 volts to the speaker. That's my own rule of thumb.

sounds interesting, i will give it a try, first using a speaker that I know the specs of first so I can make sure I do it correctly. Then try it on the MW8003.

Why do you want to use a MW8003 for this project? It seems like it would be easier with a woofer of known value.

Well I already have them, and they currently are not being used. So I had hoped that I could get specs and use them again. I don't just want to throw them in a sealed box, I would like to build a box to get the most out of them.

    I dig that.

I think I am just going to give it a try in a simple box where I know about the box, plot the response I get then figure out what sort of specs would give me that response. Then use that to make the box that I actually want, and hope it works out.

Would you consider selling the MW8003's? I have an RT20 with a blown woofer and am in desperate need of the very speakers you have to fix mine mine up. I could buy one or both (and have a spare) and with the money you could buy two new woofers of known value for your project.

    Good deal.

Could someone please send DarkHorror an email for me regarding my offer to buy his speakers? I don't have enough postings to allow me to send a private email. Thank you!
