Hey Guys,

I currently have a RTia9, CSia6, Fxia6, and dual PSW Micro Pro 3000 subs for HT. I want to finish the speaker system with another pair of surround speakers for a 7.2 setup. The room is 15WX17LX15H

1. Should I buy a second pair of Fxia speakers or RTia bookshelves? Should I go with 6s or 4s?

2. Where should I place the Fxia speakers if I get Rtia bookshelves in the back or side surround placement?

Regards,

Mike

    1. I personally would go for the FX series since I prefer dipoles for home theater.

2.; I read an article a bit back where then compared monopoles to dipoles and placement. They recommended putting the dipoles in the back and monopoles on the sides in a 7.1 system. Let me see if I can dig up the article.

In my 17x14 room I ran

    RTi A9's
    CSI a6
    4 FXI a6's
    and dual 4000's

and they sounded fantastic. I did have RTI a3's for the rears but I liked the FXI a6's better.

that's alot of speakers/power for such a relatively small room :D.

yes the FXIs are better for rear surrounds unless u are sitting too far from them then the RTI A might be better. my rear surrounds are the A1, but i am 14' away from them.

Mine is 11.5 x 25 (HT in 11.5 x 16.5) and one 300 watt 12" sub shakes the daylights out of my wife's home office above this? I can't imagine what all that does to a 14 x 17 space. Which is effectively smaller than my area because the entire room picks up all the sound and its reflections. I'd be terrified of running two 4000s in there. It's an old house with baseboard heat that rattles like the devil with my current sub...with two 4000s I'd be calling up the plumber!

+2, IMHO you are just fine with 5.1 and aren't going to gain much from cramming 2 more speakers in there. If you want more (and who doesn't, lol) get the FXi's.

Wow, did not realize you can have the rears that far away. I am assuming you have them on the back wall. Are you 5.1 or 7.1. Wonder how dipoles would sound if you have a 5.1 set up.

i am running 7.1 , the sides are FXi A4 (i matched the surrounds drivers with the RTI A9s), room is 18.5 X 28. TV is 52A650, plan is to get a 165" screen with a 3-D projectors by year end. my fronts are 13' away from each other!.

the total sound field is impresive as the sound has space to disperse, u can't really pinpoint any on the surrounds, as for setting the rear that far the calibration take care of this issue.
