Scored some windows!

I just picked up two, double pane, 48" x 18" white vinyl, solid windows for
$100, yes, that's right $100...for both. I got the manager to sell me
both for the price of one. They were on clearance, original price $248 each.

Time to cut some sheet rock, demo some stucco, do some framing and brighten up the living room. Got the perfect wall for them.

Replacing windows is simple, as long as you get the custom size windows. Pop the old ones out, pop the new one in... 2 or 4 screws, some caulk, and you're done :)
    Ludicrous gibs!

Make sure to read the warranty. Spray in insulation will void many window warranties.

Famous last words. How's about the capping? The whole process can be a nightmare if you don't know what the hell you're doing.

Most home projects are not all that difficult, if you know what your doing and have the right tools. I just pulled a sliding glass door out that was left in place by the previous owner when they made a sun room. I replaced it with double french doors. Only had to square it, shim it, put some screws in and add the trim. It took longer to paint all those little window frames than install it.

Mask & shoot. Still a pita but you can delegate masking. :D

Also, I'm curious how many DiY'ers here have replaced windows on a brick veneer home.

I can't believe the numbers you guys are throwing around....must be warm climate areas I guess. I had 2 average to small sized windows made for me. The 2 windows not installed cost me $1700.

My sister just had one living room window installed...it cost her $2300. Not sure where you guys get inexpensive windows from.

A few years ago I replace 19 windows in my house. Replacement style windows. Vinyl clad, double paine, double hung windows. Done all the work myself, windows were custom made sizes as well. Think I ended up spending around $5500 total. A local window company quoted me a price of around $18,000 complete. And their windows were not as nice! It REALLY pays to do some things for yourself. And replacing 'replacement style' windows is SO easy to do.

I live in central PA, which is warmer than winnipeg. But, I can get a double pane, low-e, argon-filled, double-hung replacement window, built to size, for $150. Brand new.
