I rent a lot of movies from Redbox. The discs are always dirty and I don't want to damage my PS3/players. Are those disc cleaning devices, such as the Scotch Disc Cleaner for CD and DVD, any good? Are they safe for my other discs and player.

Thanks.

Don't know if it is any good or not, but this one says it is safe to use on all types of dics. Can't hurt to try right?

Its probably a good idea to clean the discs before you use them, if anything. Remember, the laser on a player never touches the disc, its just reading the info. I personally think the "laser cleaners" are a waste of money. Jeff has got you on the right track!

I have to disagree, I had a problem with CD's skipping in my car as soon as I used a laser cleaner I have yet to have another CD skip.

Yeah, I saw one of those laser cleaners too, but I was thinking the same thing you were about cleaning the disk beforehand and they you have nothing to worry about if the disk is clean.

In most cases all you need is a non-abrasive cloth and some warm water....proceeding from the hole to the outside circumference of the disc...rub in straight motions--then use a similar dry cloth to dry. Water is not going to harm anything and its free!

I'm always cleaning those redbox discs if and when I rent them?

Just cleaned a Netflix DVD last night with Optrix and MikroSmooth. Some times I feel Netflix should pay me for this service since the next customer will have a good experience. ;)

I've put dirty disks under the faucet with warm water and soap before, dried them with a paper towel and they still play fine. I'm NOT recommending this, but these disks are a lot more resilient than people may think. Just think of the abuse an average netflix disk goes through. You guys using more 'professional' methods should get paid, lol.

You should become a mapleshade distributor, fox. :D

Maybe, but I wouldn't make as much as the CP MIT distributers. ;)

I've done just about all the above. I was wanting to use one of those cleaning devices and wanted to be sure that I was not damaging the discs or my player. Can anyone recommend a cheap effective device?

    Thanks.
