Good point, RS. I definitely like 80 Hz for HT at high volume because of huge bass hits on some DVDs and the air moving requirements of the sub with all the speaks set to small.
For critical music, I might concede to a 60 Hz high pass, but no lower is really needed. I have toggled back and forth between 60 and 80 on the fly during music and really can't tell much of a difference.
At 100 Hz, he might indeed be seeing some localization from the sub and sound stage wandering of bass instruments and male voices.
A rare case where I might advocate a speaker level connection to the M&K, but Sid needs to be aware that this will strain the amp section a bit and provide less headroom at high volumes, especially on bass heavy passages since the PE amp will be sending a full range, full current signal to the M&K where it will be absorbed and filtered at that point, and then sent back to the mains.
He could then experiment with a 60-80 Hz filter point in that case, instead of a fixed 100 Hz one.

Doc and Rs, Im not running speaker wire to those POS spring clips on that 12+ year old M&K! LOL! Besides, I doubt my Adcom would sweat if I did anyways. I really can't localize the sub at all, however I havn't listened to it since I changed it. I dunno, I wish you could turn the xover off in the PE. Its a pain in the arse.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Alright I did some listening, and I have no idea what ya'll are talking about. I turned the crossover on the M&K to 120, and I swear the sub was picking up WAY tooooooooooooo much! So I turned it back to around 65-75, and it sounds better (to me). I dunno, it may be filtered, and I may be loosing midrange, but when I turned it to 120, I did not like what I was hearing.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Probably because it was initially turned too loud to accomodate for the depression in the FR when you had it the other way at 65-75.
Why don't you turn it back up to 120, and recalibrate? Start the sub test tone and adjust the sub so it reads 75-78 dB on the meter (C-Weighted Slow), and give it a few days for your ears to get accustomed to the new sound.
Trust me on this one - double filtering the bass signal to the sub is a bad thing and you want to avoid it. It creates a hole in the FR at that point, and it is not the correct way to run the sub.
Avoiding double filtering is a universally agreed upon technical concept, it's not a personal taste issue. Just because your ears have become "used" to it that way doesn't necessarily make it right.

Just recalibrated it, I did the whole thing all over again, and found that I was wrong on the last calibration...lol, so whatever. Anyway it sounds much better now than it did the last time! lol! Thanx again!
I was playing some bass tracks, average bass was around 105-109db. Then this sound of a plane (something like a plane) went all around the room, the meter registered 118!!!!! I was like, HOLY SHEAT!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Good deal - glad it sounds better. 118 wow! That some bass!! Is your room on the small side? Tough to fill a big room with that much volume.

yep, 8 feet tall!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Lemme guess, you have a big nasty null right in the middle and there is a null on the side of the room the door is on?
-
Nope......I have a bass null on the door side, the Middle and Left side is the strongest. VERY effin DEEP and VERY effin LOUD on the left and middle (the bed is there). However, you go on the door side, NO bass, NO BASS AT ALL!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
