Any boot CD I could build to run a windows program, on a Mac computer?

Also needs to do a serial port thing.

Mac has their own vm thing, bootcamp. And there's another I can't recall the name. Basically you have to d/l it, install it on your mac, then get your (or somebody's ) XP disc and install a virtual XP inside it to run that, then install the program.

I don't think using a bootcd is going to do it for you unless the app is portably installed, slipstreamed into the bootcd.

If you're savvy, you may be able to do that with a Hiren's bootcd, which is windows based.

As for the serial port, there are usb-to-serial cable things, which I used to use to con into routers. That's a PITA because you have to figure out which virtual ComPort is the one assigned to it.
Then I figured, screw it, get a business laptop that has an onboard serial port. voila.

I have to try re-running Hirens XP disk, when I did I didn't find any serial ports. That's a problem as I need to have a serial port, that's the problem I need to work with it.

I do recall seeing some kind of bootable USB (could have bee Barts PE) that allowed you to run VMWare and host an XP guest.
Or you could just try to run the Windows app right from the Bart's CD, if possible.

Is this an older Mac or a newer one?
Exactly what are you trying to do?

So is he trying to do a firmware update on something? It would help to know exactly what's going on as there may be other ways to accomplish what he's trying to do.

Bro, a serial port is a physical hardware port that's been "demoted", if you will. Kinda archaic. They just don't put them on Macs at all anymore, iirc, and most PC's either. Usually it's 9 pins, D arrangement. Used to be for an oldstyle modem hookup.
But if you are consoling into a router or switch of any kind, you gotta have it.
if you have a windows based PC without a serial port, which is the case in most of them anymore, you can buy a cable converter- USB on one end, serial female on the other, and hope the drivers come with it.

If you're trying to console into a router to update it with a Windows app inside a Mac, OWWWIEE!

You'd have to have an install of XP within the Mac's hosting Bootcamp or Parallels ( that's the one I couldn't think of) then buy or borrow one of the converter cables, install the drivers, install your Windows app, run your Windows app.

No other way you can do it with a Mac, and no guarantee it will recognize the USB to Serial within the Virtual XP, although it should...

Is your app the .NET app you were developing a while back? If so, install Mono on the Mac.

    http://www.mono-project.com/Mono:OSX

.NET application that do not rely on native libraries and are not using all the greatest and latest .NET features, will run on Mac or Linux without a problem. Native software, Bootcamp or Wine.

    Sami,

No not that program you tried to help me, in the end I was confused and I believe you was confused also. This program is a boot updater for a mapping update. The file is .exe and it will make a .ini file if it's missing.
