Quad ESL 2805.....hubba hubba hubba

Went up to the Analog Store in Raleigh this afternoon to pick up my Heathkits (minor wiring issues...couple connections gone awry probably from shipping from Korea and back...anyway, good as new!)
...anyway, Alex (great, funny guy...) the proprietor hooked them up to his Quad 2805's....Quad CD player, Manley Shrimp pre, my amps, DH Labs cabling.
So, I'm figuring that while I'm not familiar with the front end, I'm familiar enough with the Quads and Heaths that it should be a similar sound to what I have. Again, different gear but same ballpark....
Holy mother of SHAT! I have to figure out a way to get these 2805's. They retain all the things that I LOOOOOVE about ESL's in general and Quads in particular (imaging, transparency, coherence...blah blah)....and have included the couple of things that they are generally criticized for, bass and dynamics. I was utterly flabbergasted. I had no idea that the Heathkits would produce such authoritative bass.
Anyway, I can't really give a comprehensive review after a 90 min listening session but I can say, these are my Holy Grail. If you get a chance to hear a pair, DO IT.
I dunno, gang, I don't have the coinage no matter how I skin it....but, I WILL, rest assured, someday own these things.

Glad to hear that you are back to plug and play bro'. Now just sit back and enjoy the music, beer in hand.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

Alex Lok is a great guy, he actually turned me onto the DH Labs Q10's Ive been using for the past few years. The man seriously knows his business.
That being said, those Quad's sound great up there. Last I heard them was on a set of Quad tube amp's (dont remember model #, but the current or most current ones) a Quad ss pre and Quad cdp playing a burned CD. Sounds great, even though I wasnt so hot on the material playing.
Good Luck on your quest for them, I sure would be happy with those in my cave.

Stats can do bass, just need to be designed properly.
BDT.........TLW pretty much kicks us to the curb unless your playing in the sand or a rice paddy. OK maybe an occasional phone call or something.
About the only upside is you get to pay your own electric bill, you gotta see GG about any hair cream stains.
