All I know is that the Vandersteens (cosmetically) look similar to polks; about wet myself when i saw a pair listed for $200; thought they were 2.3s or 1Cs.

    Sure do.
And apparently so to DCM 'Time Frame' speakers.

These are listed locally for $90 in a sale that has Polk in the heading. Of course the Polk was just a subwoofer in the same listing :(

Vandersteen is a great loudspeaker. In regards to Monitor Audio it depends on the model.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Vandy's will blow you away with their imaging. Very nice speaker for sure.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

Vandersteen 3A is awesome. It's a very transparent speaker.

they (vandys) are different,, but what impressed me was the bass and the imaging,,keep in mind that I heard the 3's in a showroom driven with a good front end, but powered with a receiver,I can only imagine how good they really are when powered with some good tube gear,or solid state for that matter.

I ask because I have a chance at some Vandy 2CE signature 1s. I owned a pair two years ago but had to sell them for financial reasons. I had them for about 7 months but what was interesting is when I brought my early model 10s up and had them side by side the 10s were more intimate and had a more open midrange. They went as deep also. I was surprised. The vandersteens were cleaner and more refined. but had a more distant sound. Also i do remember the inage would wonder once and awhile. That is why I am a little leary and wonder how thwe would hold up against RTA 12s or SDA 1cs? keith

Vandys are very good speakers (I've owned 2Cs and have listened to other 2's and 3's), especially placed correctly. A lot of owners, due to the concealed nature of the drivers, forget the rear-firing coupler and wonder why they sound boomy when placed too close to a wall. Vandersteen is also definitely of the "bi-wire (or bi-amp) is better school"; some models don't even have provisions (jumpers) for single wire setup!

Cloth is difficult to remove so it's tough to actually check driver/surround condition when considering buying these used although most models have butyl rubber, not foam surrounds.

All in all a great speaker with impressive mids, highs and better bass extension than most speakers their size. Non-fatiguing (IMHO) if not a little "laid back" on the upper end although most also have adjustable mids and tweets. The only speaker I liked the imaging of better was a pair of excellent Dahlquist DQ-20i I had a while back. The Vandersteens remind me much of a well built Dahlquist.

Vandersteen is one of the only companies still in business today that stays focused on a small model line up almost unchanged from what they started with years ago and really pack a high quality sound into an affordable package. Often you can even reach Richard Vandersteen himself on the phone if you have questions you don't think tech support can adequately answer!

Monitor has it's fans but I've personally never heard a pair I thought worth spending the money to take home with me.

I prefer my 1C's,, however,, I could live with the 2ce's,, but I could envision a long term relationship with the 3's.
