How to wire/connect a monitor tv?

How do you wire/connect a monitor tv that is just the monitor that has no speakers or tv tuner like the Pioneer Elite Pro-141fd plasma monitors?

If I can remember correctly I was told that you need:

HD cable box (does it have to be wireless or satellite?)
a/v reciever
satellite speakers

How does an HD cable box keep an HDMI 1080p signal to the monitor?
What specific type of reciever is needed?
How are the satellite speakers connected to the cable box or reciever or?

Not sure on this, but I'll take a stab at it. Connecting it to an HD cable/satellite box is as easy as connecting it via HDMI/component/composite. That will get you picture. Keep in mind that an HD cable/satellite box will not give you a 1080p picture, the HD channels on Comcast (and the rest IIRC) are only 1080i, but it's still better than SD. As long as you have an AVR that has HDMI inputs/outputs you will be fine on the signal, if not, then you need an upgrade. Sound as far as I can tell will come from the cable/satellite box via HDMI/coponent/composite just the same (different cable obviously) into your AVR, and the sounds should come out of your HT speakers with a little tweaking. Damn dude, $5,000 on a TV w/ no speakers, lol. Hope this helps.

Thanks, yeah it's a friend's 141fd monitor so he will sell it to me for $2500. I now have 2 Pioneer Elite plasmas (Pro-111fd, 151fd) but I never had a monitor tv before.

I have a Comcast HD box, I don't know if it's satellite capable. My friend has Direct TV satellite tv so he doesn't have the Comcast cable box I have. Is my Comcast HD box capable to work with a monitor or does everything have to be satellite to work with a monitor (cablebox, reciever, speakers etc) ?

The reciever I will be using will be a Denon 1910/790

I have a Comcast HD box and it works fine with my TV. The picture will be transmitted via HDMI/component/composite and won't be an issue with your monitor. The sound you will run through your AVR in much the same way via HDMI/component/coposite/digital optical/digital coax. Then just set it up for whatever preset you are using the connection for (IE DVD, Sat/Cbl or whatever other otions you may have) and you should be fine.

Keep in mind it doesn't look like either of those AVR's has pre-outs. Gonna drop $2,500 for a TV wouldn't hurt to maybe have an AVR that can atleast run an external amp. Just my $.02. Those 2 do have all the necessary inputs for the Comcast box though for your audio.

What is the importance of having pre-outs on a reciever for use connected to my monitor? Is it necesary to have pre-outs to get sound out of the monitor? I'm still not that familiar with how a monitor works, your info has been helpful so far though, I'm still learning about this. Will the Denon 1910/790 give the monitor sound with the satellite speakers?

Forget about audio with your monitor, it is going to be for video only. The pre-outs were a suggestion for the audio side of the equation, and the AVR will be handling that. I was just saying that it sounds like you want a kick@$$ system and neither of the 2 models you listed have pre-outs for adding an external amp. They by no means are a must, but they are nice for down the road if you want more power to your speakers. You say satellite speakers, what speakers exactly are you looking at? If they are smaller box type speakers, then you probably won't need pre-outs because they can only handle so much power to begin with and won't get much better sounding with an external amp, IMHO. I'm sure the Denon models you specified will work fine with any speaker, just a matter of which ones and how much power you want going to them.

Cable boxes do not produce a 1080p signal, only 1080i, first off. Some direct tv channels do though. Anyway, the only 1080p source you will have is your blu-ray player. The monitor is like a tv without channels or speakers. You have the cable box for the channels and you use the AVR and your speakers for the audio part. Downside is you always have to have the avr on to watch tv. Some monitors have hookups to connect speakers directly to the TV.

Use an Hdmi cable to the receiver, then another from the receiver to the TV.
Or run an HDMI cable directly to tv from cable box, optical cable from box to receiver.
