"Dynamic Balance" Tweeters

Hello all,
I am trying to match >IN SOUND< a Polk SL5501 tweeter. I was told by
Polk C.S. that the last digit of a speaker part # was the form of shielding built into the driver[I'm not worried about that], so a SL5500 would work for me. I have come across a used SL5000 that that is a PRICE I CAN AFFORD and appears similar to my SL5501.
>IS THERE AN AUDIBLE DIFFERENCE?
>DO THEY SPEC OUT THE SAME?

I am replacing a pair of Peerless tweets blown out in a pair of ADS L630's.
I am guessing the power handling of the Polk tweet is higher but would like to verify that.

IF someone knows the details of these components, I would appreciate your input. Also, if anybody has a SL5501 or 5500 or any other appicable component you would like to sell at a modest price, I'd be interested in knowing that too.
Thanks for being out there. James

I'm assuming the original tweeters that you blew were the Peerless 5500 and you want to replace it with the 5501 or another 5500? There should be no difference if shielding was added.

When it comes to power handling, focus on the amp instead of speakers. Clipping amps will blow tweeters and drivers.

Thanks for your reply. Actually I want to know if a SL5000 could replace a SL5501.
I blew the Peerless tweets with a 185 wpc Carver amp, Probably a ways from clipping. The ADS are rated for 100.
    Thanks again James.

Man, I think you were listening quite loud there lol. Sorry, I have no idea if they have the same specs. There are quite a few members here who know a lot about these Peerless. Hopefully they'll chime in soon.
