New Polk towers for 2 channel opinions???
I'm looking for a pair of speakers for my 2 channel rig only. NO surround.
Which is the most musical of the newer tower speakers. I have to have a small footprint in my room.
I have about any type amplification needed.
This will be a simple 2 channel system only.
Room size is 17x10
Thanks,
Harry

So then we would say the LSi 15s or 25s....those are the MOST MUSICAL of the Polk towers but they will cost you and you will need to go with separates to power them: A pre-amp and a power amp! As they are 4 ohm loads and POWER hungry.
Obviously, the 15s would have the smaller footprint but they are not that small!

I know he said towers but he also said small, and musical. The LSI's are Polks musical line of speakers but all the towers are huge. LSI 9's with stands can make a nice budget 2 channel setup. -

or LSI 9s with a mp1k? I know he said strictly 2 channel, and some don't consider a sub as part of that, but I think a mp1k would fill out the low end nicely with those. It's small, and very musical. Just saying:)Sony 40" LCD

since u have amplification, u might consider the RTI A9s as well, with enough power the pretty much cover all the required frequency range.
LSIs are more musical for sure but the A9s are simply amazing as a full range speakers as well.
and yes not a small footprint at all. -
LSi7 with a DSW Pro 600 subwoofer.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Footprint size??
I've been running Klipsch Cornwalls, the occasionally pair of Khorns, Altec 19, 14, AR9LSi, etc for my 2 channel. TOO LARGE. 20" deep and not over say 17" or so wide. Height is not an issue. Single guy life here.
Lately I've been running the RT15, 400, 800, etc but I've found some midrange lacking and maybe more of a compromise speaker to bridge two worlds.
I'm an old timer, into tubes, and not a believer in subs. Vinyl, tape, and good DAC for disc are a must.
Budget??? I don't want to go into the 3-6K range.
IF you've heard the old time speakers I've been listening to then you probably know what I'm looking for.
Thanks for the input and sorry it's taken so long to get back.

Ha! I had some Altec model 15s with the "mantaray" horn I think they call it...How about a nice set of 11Ts then? It has a smaller foot print and can cover the whole frequency range well IMO. It can be had for a relatively small amount of money even adding in the price of a Xover rebuild and the RDO tweeters. That's all I got with my small amount of experience:o Good luck:)Sony 40" LCD

I'm still looking for some input on an excellent sounding tower. I do not do HT so a quality 2 channel speaker is what I'm looking for. Size restrictions listed above.
Thanks so much for the input so far.

New, i'd cast my vote for the LSi15s as well. Older, i think the others off the top of my head would be RTA11Ts or LS90s. I'd imagine the LSi15s should still be a step up from those.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

I know this is a Polk forum, but is it necessary to stick with Polk? Or are you looking at other brands as well?- Jeremy

I like these ideas. Also....it's been a while, but ND13 had some RTA8TL's that might worth considering. -

Don't tell him that... he just had a NICE pair of RTA8Ts.
How many tower speakers like that has Polk really made, though?

I'm not sure if the RT/RTi/RTiA series is what he would be looking for, but i DO know that his tone tastes and mine don't really match.
Harry, have you heard the RTiA line?I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

I've heard the RTA8TL of ND13, RTA11t from this series also. i Just Got Rid of my LS90'S. They're all "nice" speakers but I want a more open and airy "LARGE" sounding speaker.
Thank you

If not....Harry I can bring my rti's by for you to try sometime if you're interested. Love them for HT, but I'm not crazy about them with music. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the gear I'm using with them though. -
I think the closest you'll get is the big LSis, biggest RTis (RTi12s maybe?), or the RTA15TLs...
Mind me asking why you're looking for Polks in particular?I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

I like Polk. I'm loyal to them. Polk has always treated me great. Service, dependability, etc, all have been outstanding.
I've been listening to the old Monitors for decades and I love them. I love the SDA also but I don't have the room needed for the monsters I like
I've just been running the huge 'fridge size speakers lo long now and tired of the audio taking up all the room. There's got to be some nice towers that will allow me some extra space to "kick off my shoes". -
LSi25 if I had your money.

I am saving up for these required speakers. I'm selling off some stuff I don't have to have just to make a major change in my audio thinking and still get the big full speaker sound.
This is a big step for me. I'm an old **** set in his ways -

I vote LSi25 or 15 for the stereo set up with no sub. These are deep and not wide as size goes. Although, with these you will need a couple of feet on the outsides to keep them off the walls because of the side woofers. This will give you a spot to keep your shoes between the speakers and the walls when you kick them off.
if you have plenty of amps on hand to drive the upper and lower sections of each speaker the 15's would be best choice.
just my opinionpop
