I am thinking of getting this sub and would use it as a front firing sub based on my set up. My question is for those of you out there that use it as a front fire, does the remote still work well? I believe the remote sensor will be on the side of the sub when you flip it to be front fire...thanks.

i have it and it's downfiring,

u are right when it's front firing the remote become more picky to work,

however from a performance perspective front VS downfiring doesn't matter,

and u have to buy a grill when it's front firing otherwise pets/children might be a serious threat to it.

frankly i don't use the remote that often since the sub power is set at auto, and beyond the calibration i never used the remote.

btw a great sub, will change the way people looking at POLK subs.

    for me it's paired with RTI As 7.1 setup (A9s, A6, A4s and A1s) in a 18.5 x 28 feet room.

I just picked one up from Polk Direct...it appeared to be brand-new to me.
So far I have been experimenting w/ placement and have had some success placing the sub on one of those rubber exercise squares due my room is carpeted. At some point I'll try something denser to place the sub on, such as spare laminate flooring.

thanks for the info...nice setup you got there.

its funny you say that, when i listened to the Pro400 in a store the sales guy was surprised it sounded as good as it did. I have been going back and forth between the Pro600 and the MicroPro 3000, I like the MP because its smaller but think I will get the 600.

Madnod - does it look funny when you go front fire with the polk logo being sideways? lol

I think i have to go front because the room it will be in is carpeted which is on a concrete slab (first floor). I thought down firing would get too absorbed?

the feet are designed to be removed from the standard spot and placed in the other mounting holes in the back where the connections are, which would put the polk logo on the top of the sub. I haven't tried the front firing position yet but there was a thread on this subject not too long ago and it sounds like a 45 degree adaptor is needed to give the sub cable ample clearence from the floor, even with the rubber inserts attached to the bottom of the feet

i am using it downfiring, i have it on carpeted flooring as well and it's fine, u might try building a sub rise, it can be done pretty cheap and it makes the sub sounds better.

I use the 600 in the down firing position with a full LSI surround system. I listen to 70% music and this sub does a very good job. I have tried in a front firing position (I set it up on blocks of wood) you'll need angle connectors for the power and the LFE connectors, because the rubber feet with the extra spacers from Polk, just aren't enough space for the wires. I felt the down firing position sounded slightly better than the front firing, and with the sub in the front firing position the Polk logo and the remote sensor end up on the top of the speaker, and you'll need the optional grill to protect the speaker from....whatever.

My vote is for down firing!!!

When I had it in the front firing position I felt it sounded alittle boomy and more directional, that being said my room has wood floors so I don't know if the carpet would make a difference.
