I'm just looking for something to really make my Monitor 60's sound great when it comes to music. <300$. My current 5.1 receiver does not have an pre-outs so i would just be looking for anything i could hook up separately like a stereo receiver or something i could just have run on it's own and just switch the speaker wire in the back of the speakers every time i wanted to change between HT or stereo (annoying i know).
TV- Samsung 24" LCD T240HD
5.1 Receiver - Harman/Kardon AVR 247
Stereo Receiver - Harman/Kardon 3390
Front - Monitor 60
Center - Cs10
Surround - Tsi100
Sub - SVS PB10-NSD :D
Playstation 3

Your cheapest bet would be a Harman Kardon 3x90 series stereo receiver..120 watts x 2 and also capable of driving 4 ohm loads.

You should be able to get one for around that price used or maybe on a big sale push 'new'.

HK direct on ebay is always selling these refurbished quite a bit.. the 3490s are the 120X2 and the 3390 are 80X2 both able to handle 4 ohm

    He's running 60's...what does he need a 4 ohm receiver for ?

Look my man, one thing you don't want to do is have to change speaker wires around when you want to switch from stereo to 5.1 for HT. Just grab a receiver that has pre outs to add an amp later when you could afford one. HK refurbs are priced well, also look on your local craigslist for a used Pioneer, onyko, B&K , and you can't go wrong. Then it's a matter of pushing a button to switch from stereo to 5.1. Key here is to get a receiver with preouts. Dig it?
    HT SYSTEM-
    Sony 850c 4k
    Pioneer elite vhx 21
    Sony 4k BRP
    SVS SB-2000
    Polk Sig. 20's
    Polk FX500 surrounds

    Cables-
    Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
    Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
    Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
    Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable

    Sonos zp90

You're right...I just thought he might want to have a stereo AVR that would serve him when and if he gets the upgrade bug...which he will if he hangs around here.

Certainly a HK with pre-outs and an amp will do him...not sure how much better a slightly higher model H/K will sound to him since he already has the 120?

Can a Denon AVR 1610 power that speaker set?

    YES!

Would it be better to get an AVR with pre-outs, that the 1610 does not....?

    YES!

    What AVRs have pre-outs:

Pioneer VSX-21, Onkyo TX-SR707, Harman Kardon AVR 254, Marantz 5004 and so on.

Anyone of those will have more features...a bit more power and be more 'upgradable' than the Denon AVR1610.
