CD Players?

New forum guy brought here by an accumulation of new Polk stuff and planning to stick around 'cause there's lots of good 'brain' in here. Right now I'm in the process of completing my 'last' system - really! I promised!

Anyway, everything is decided except a new CD player.

The short list: Onkyo DX 7555, Marantz CD 5003 and the Cambridge 340C (in this order). I'm replacing my old Denon DCD-590.

Other new stuff includes an Onkyo SR-707 and A7s at the heart of the stereo with CSi center, FXi A6 surrounds and a Pioneer BDP320 loading up the Bravia when it's show time.

Don't want to overspend for any component ... the DX 7555 fits tightly within the system's budget plan but the Marantz or Cambridge look like deals.

All help welcome with this price point spread, $350 to $600. But i could be convinced ...
Marantz AV7005
Marantz MM7055
Onkyo DX-755 CdP
Oppo BDP-93
Technics SL-1301/Shure M97xE
Polk RTi A7s
Polk CSi A6
Polk FXi A6s
Velodyne VDR10-BV
Panamax M5100-PM
Antec VERIS A/V Cooler x 2

Take a look at the most recent NAD offerings.

    NAD C515BEE (MSRP $299)
    NAD C545BEE (MSRP $499)

I've had the opportunity to listen to both and they are excellent CDPs. I could live with the C515BEE as my only CDP and never look back. However, the C545BEE is better IMO...and Spearit Sound has them as a factory refurb for $399...which I think is a great deal. I have owned both NAD and Cambridge Audio CDPs. The NADs have a more laid back sound and the CAs are more...neurtral...neither adding or taking away from what is on the disc. I happen to like the NAD sound better...but that's just me.

You are in luck. Mapleshade has expanded their line of custom moded equipment, and they added the Cambridge-Audio 340C to their line.

Apparently not. I received their latest catalog last night when I got home, and looking through it I was surprised at all the new stuff. I guess they are doing okay for a company that does not advertise, and basically survives via word of mouth.

If you get lucky and AudioAdvisor still has them - they have run specials on the Cambridge Audio 640c V2 for $349. That is what I got mine for.

Cambridge players are pretty good..but I also like the Pioneer Elite series SACD/CD player in that price range, i.e. less than 800 dollars. Worth listening to everything mentioned above...each will have its strengths and quirks.

Out of your three choices, I would lean towards the Marantz. They have a warm, yet detailed sound which I enjoy. The others have mentioned some nice players that are definitely worth checking out. I am using an Opera Audo Consanance CD 120 as my primary cd player and absolutely love it. It has a great sound that is close to vinyl in tone and sound. You can find these used in the price range you are looking at. If you can find one, jump on it and thank me later.

At the price level were talking I'd look at a decent DAC and getting a good used source. I've had the Marantz with an Adcom DAC and it was a very nice setup. I now have a Cambridge with the Adcom DAC after I tried the stand alone cdp route.

Went with the Onkyo DX7555. It was my first choice though all players mentioned - especially the Marantz - were tempting. Will post something when installed.

    Thanks for the input.

Why would anybody put a link to a "dodge steering rack" in their post? Is it a spammer trying to get people to visit a virus infected site?
