We've gotten 2" of snow

So naturally, this great city is a disaster area.

2 hour drive into work today, and this is the first time that i can honestly say it wasn't because of morons driving slower than they should. I never got past 2nd gear, and i drove most of the way sideways due to the gradient on the highway.

The roads are TERRIBLE.

But seriously. How hard is it to keep the roads clear of 2 FREAKING INCHES?!?! It's the midwest! It snows! Get used to it! Be prepared, we all knew that this snow was coming 5 days ago!

I have NEVER seen any place more inept at keeping the roads under control as this place. It's unreal. We're supposed to get a total of 7 inches. They will declare a state of emergency. Mark my words.

Unbelivable.

It could be that the snow was falling heavy during rush hour, which pretty much prevents the plows from clearing. I would think Indy could keep up. Detroit area never had a problem dealing with snow, that is, unless it hits during rush hour.

Hahaha, trust me, you give them too much credit. Last year we got 10" over a day and a half. The entire city was shut down for two days.

We have like... 7 snow plows for the entire area. And in terms of area, this is one of the biggest cities in the US. We've had to borrow plows from other citys, even contracted regular pickups with plows in the past.

Detroit is used to snow. Central New York is used to snow. Colorado is used to snow.

These people have no idea what's going on.

It was snowing during rush hour, but not that hard, and it was snowing early this morning. I'm talking about 2 inches over a 5-6 hour period, and it's crippled this place.

Well, I guess they don't feel that it snows enough to invest in the removal infrastructure. Atlanta would be the same way. They are calling for 1-2" and everybody is canceling everything for this evening (college/government, etc).

that's pretty bad... I lived in Chicago and Boston Suburbs when i was kid and the plows were always good about getting out there, you'd think that a northern town like Inday would do the same thing...

Yeah, Indianapolis sucks at clearing the snow. They have about two trucks to cover the whole city for some reason.

Well, i'm sure that's exactly it. But they need to get real. It's not exactly a southern warm climate here. It hasn't broken 25 degrees here in over a week, for Pete's sake. That's normal for winter here. We get a real winter. I just don't understand why they don't think that snow will happen.

I live about a two minute walk from the State House downtown. All the private businesses have cleared their sidewalks, but the State House walkways and parking lots are still covered in snow. I couldn't tell the sidewalk from the grass when I took my dog to pee today.

it hasn't stopped snowing here since new years eve! probably close to 30in and whats in Indy should be here in a few more hours. going to sleep soon to prepare for another fun round of plowing. what kills me (and slows us down) are the folks who don't HAVE to be out driving around in this weather. getting stuck behind some jackass going 8 mph. why anyone that lives here in the snowbelt and drives a 2wd is beyond me. STAY HOME!!! sorry for the rant, living in a plow truck for a week will do funny things to your mind :o

That's my point. I KNOW what real snow is, i'm not Indiana born and bred. I was born and raised in one of the most notorious snow belts in the country.

A state of emergency is 6 feet overnight. MAYBE.

Bad roads are caused by a snowfall rate of 6" an hour, NOT 2" over 5 hours.

We are expecting a dusting to an inch of snow tonight and schools are already closing. They are already talking about the possibility of delayed opening at work.
