I have a few pieces of gear that need some minor work. Any of you guys in the NW burbs of Chicago, recommend a place to take them to ? Looking for a place that works on audio gear and does quality work. Can't seem to find anything but TV repair shops which makes me nervous about letting them touch anything audio related. Don't really want to ship anywhere, prefer something in driving distance, say within 30 miles of Algonquin. The Rockford Audio guys must have a place. C'mon guys, it's not nice to keep secrets.:)

Thanks for any help in advance guys.

They are not cheap, and the guy has the personality of a rock, however in my experience they do good work.

What kind of work you talking? What kinda pieces? Depending what you need done, you might just find a DIY'er buddy that is close to you that can help you. Either that, or learn how to do some things yourself. Things like cold solder joint repairs, cap replacement, and cleaning dirty pots are all very easy to learn and can be done with minimal equipment.

Yeah,I know, but I'm not a do it yourselfer with audio repairs. Prefer someone who has knowledge and that I can hold accountable if they screw up. If I screw up, could be costly.:)

You still haven't said what type of gear and what's the problem. For mainstream gear, I'd go to the manufacturer and see where their authorized service centers are located.

I have a power conditioner that won't allow the rear plugs to work, could be an inline fuse, a monster 5100 unit. Hate to have to pitch a 600 buck PC. Also my B&K needs a repair to the audio inputs but to ship that monster back and forth would be too costly.

For B&K, I highly recommend sending it directly to their factory in Buffalo. Set up a FedEx account and ship it using the discounted rates. It will be less than you think. Probably less than $30 to get it there. B&K has pretty affordable rates to get it back to you also. They do good work and their factory repair prices are very good. They won't waste your time with any unnecessary diagnostics and they often do free upgrades while the unit is in the shop.

That Monster unit is probably very simple inside. Just open it up and check things out. I believe Monster usually has a block diagram printed on the case to help you out.

Allready did open them up, not much noticable to me without any sort of diagnosis tools on hand. Nothing looks burnt up,all connections look good. Not totally inept my man, but when you need someone, you just do.
