Hello Everyone from Canada and new member

I've finally decided to join this site after dusting off a pair of SRS 2.3TL speakers I've had since the early 90's. Wow...forget how heavy they were. What ignited me to get back into this was the discovery and purchase of a Luxman PD-300 circa 1981 turn table that had upgraded arm/cartridge housing, I then installed a Nagaoka CP-500 cartridge and viola...I am back in the game.

Well...i've been polk'ing around the forums and I'm looking for wiring schematics and new tweeters/ what upgrades you guys think I should do. I want to completly re-tune/vamp these ol friends of mine and do them justice. new drivers, cross overs, wiring..the works!! So...looking for parts..and tips. Thanks guys for having this site here...this is GREAT!!!

    Redo the XO's and replace the tweeters.

    Welcome to Club Polk. Do some searches you'll find tons of info on redoing the crossovers. Another tweak would be to seal the drivers using mortite and ensure the cabinets are sealed.

    Schematics and such can be found as a sticky post in the Vintage Speaker section that you posted this thread. Here's a link to the SDA lists for your convenience.

    Thanks guys! Awesome. Stupid me...I had seen the SDA schematics...and it escaped me that the SRS's were in the series of SDA' DOH! Got the schematics. Regarding the Tweets...are these the SL3000...or an updated/better version of them? what about the mids...and ideas? Sealing the cabinets is a new one to me to. My next object of desire is going to be an amp to do my turntable/2.3TL justice!!! Going to have to save some pennies(more like 100's of 1000's of them). I only have a 3806 Denon right now...please dont flame me ;). Cheers

    Use Dynamat Extreme to damp the mid driver and PR baskets. Other than that, leave the mid drivers alone. Doped paper cones are still considered by many as sounding the most natural.....I agree.

    Your set up needs work, get those speakers out of the corners and get that crap off the tops.

    ...Hahaha...my wife and i own a winery in Canada, I'm also the winemaker...and as such, I also collect wine from all over the world. We're in the process of building and new wine cellar adjacent to the theatre room you see there and we've been stacking wine everywhere. Obviously we dont want my "crap" collectable burgundys' on top of my speakers... ;) hahahaha...the room is JUST being setup...but thanks for the tip...;). I not certain as to how I'm going to place these speakers in this space. ideas? I'm thinking about bringing in specialty shop in my area to do sound treatment to the the room. i've heard that makes a world of difference.

    Since you know wines do you know anything about Chinese wines...I'm in Beijing for the year and I haven't the faintest idea of what to buy when I go out....it seems China has a burgeoning business in various reds....I'm not an expert but I've had a couple and they seem passable?

    Actually I'm kind of surprised to see the increase in home grown wines here. Do you know anything about that? Just curious.

    Nice speakers you have there!
    Listen to these guys, they know a great deal about SDA's , what amps they like and placement for accurate sound. I highly suggest that tweeter upgrade.

    I think wine and music go well!!

    Nothing like a nice corvina w some Dave Brubek or a Mablec with some Eddie Harris. I know some people match the wine up with food I match it up by music LOL

    Actually, in Canada you are going to have to find your local Polk Rep and he/she will be able to hook you up with the RD0-198's. I upgraded my 1.2TL's and they are fantastic sounding tweeters. I wound up buying replacements plus a spare.

    did those 2.3s not come with 3 different tweeters? one each for low,medium and high range treble? this would really make them different. would the new tweeters be so good that wouldn't matter? If someone wanted to replace just one of them-which one might be the best one to replace? I know this is getting theoretically critical, I own a pair and thats what I'd like to do. I'd also like to find out if they are making any better drivers. Over the years you would think they would be better at it.Hoping for some info. Theres another thing everybody needs to know about these speakers--I went to a Bryston processor and 4b SST amp and you would not believe the excellent sound coming from these speakers. Bryston AMPs are the fastest on the market-they call it slew rate. Why do other AMP companies not rate this? It is one of the most important things in Amp technology. Being an absolute "audionut" I've been listening to speakers ever since the '80s when I bought mine thinking that one day I would upgrade. Over the years...all I found was I needed a better AMP and processor! After alot of different AMPs I finally went ahead -broke bad and spent some money---GOD am I GLAD I was stupid enough to buy this extremely good equipment! It is nearly unbelievable how much of a difference they make. If I had known about that in the '80s-- I would have borrowed enough to get the equipment. From what I've learned most of these speakers are damaged by peaks in amplification. Bryston has NO peaks..NO frequency variations and are just awesome with these speakers...Even after listening to $50k-100K speakers there isn't enough difference to spend any money.Bryston stuff is expensive though---so is all the junk on the expensive speakers I've been listening to over the years.It is actually hard for me to grasp.Matthew Polk needs to come back in long enough to make some without the umbilical cord---but he would want a fortune for doing it...so the speakers would be outrageously priced---LMAO --- IS-- Darqueknight -- still the one to ask most of these big dog questions? I have even more intricate ? !!!

    Neither the 2.3 nor the 2.3 TL come with 3 different tweeters. The 2.3 takes the SL2000 or RD0194-1, while the 2.3TL takes the SL3000 or RD0198-1. Replacing just one per cabinet is not a good idea. There is absolutely not a damn thing wrong with the original drivers. They produce a natural and very musical sound.

    I'm glad you like your amp, I found Bryston's sound too dry/analytical for my tastes, but they are built solid. Slew rate, eh? Well, if you think it matters.

    BTW, speakers get damaged by clipping the amp, if that's what you mean by peaks and guess what...you can drive most amps into clipping, including that Bryston.
