I'm gonna be in NYC for a training from Sunday night to Friday afternoon. My class runs from 8am to 5pm, but after 5 I'll be wandering around looking for something to do.

Anyone in NYC know any sights, or want to meet up for a pint? Oh, and my hotel is in Manhattan, on William St, between Wall St. and pine

Have you ever been to the White Horse tavern? Prices seem reasonable, and it's between where I'm taking my course and my hotel. Any other suggestions for food and beveridge locations? Any favorites of yours that aren't horribly expensive. I'd love to hit Pound n' Pence, but the menu looks quite expensive.

Never been there. I usually go to Jerry's NYC (they have great hamburgers, etc.) since it is relatively inexpensive. Also I would assume you are near Chinatown?

Where is Jerry's at? I'm going to be staying in the heart of the financial district, but my training is down close to Battery Park.

Jerry's is located near Chinatown near the Village. I would also recommend PREM-ON Thai in the Village, that place is awesome too if you like Thai food.

Also, would you be interested in leaving NYC for a while?

alot of places are overpriced....but to mention a few...

if you want to try ducks, snails, or frogs then go to china town(recommend hop kee)...also if you want to pick up fake rolex and stuff....
go to century 21 while you are there.....it's right across from where twin tower used to be.....good deals...

you can check out saigon grill on 90th st.....cheap and good food ...
Cafe lalo (84th st I think), where you've got mail was filmed...decent food and excellent choice of desserts...

the brooklyn pizza place, the line is over 2 hours on lunch time(longer at dinner)....be sure to reserve first and come back two hours later...

I would recommend Chinatown too. However, not everyone is a fan of Chinese food.

I eat it basically every day.

I'm not looking to do any traveling. This is my first time in the City (impressive, considering I've lived within 2 hours of it all my life), and I'm going to be on my own, no less. I've gotten a lot of tips from my boss, who goes there several times a year, but I still want to play it safe. I'm trying to keep my destinations within walking distance of my hotel. I also don't have a lot of money to spend. I'm essentially limited to what the company will pay for, which is probably a max of $25-30 in food per day. To me, this is still a massive amount of money, considering I regularly eat for $10 a day unless I'm going out someplace fancy.

A lot of menus I'm looking at for places around the city are $40 for a single meal... not going to work.

Then Chinatown would be a good place. The food is cheap and very good, portions are large and you don't have to spend a lot of money.

There are places where it's less than $10-15 a meal. Within walking distance is fine, as it's possible to go anywhere crosstown in a relatively short period of time.

Let me know if you want to get together, and I'll show you around the city.

Yep, I got in alright. Got lost two times come in. One while driving in jersey, and once walking from the bus stop to the hotel. But now I know my way around at least from the hotel to the training and back.

Didn't venture out of the hotel room tonight... haven't been feeling well today. Typical of me traveling. It always wreaks havoc on my stomach.

Have a good time in the City...I lived there for over 10 years. All the suggestions above are good.

If you like ethnic food, the Greek food is in Astoria-Queens just over the bridge, little India is on 6th street and 1st ave---great Indian at CHEAP prices. Also on the lower East side some good Polish and Russian fare! Korea-town used to be in the lower mid 30s off of Madison Ave. And the Peking Duck is, of course, in Chinatown--if you have never had that it's worth it! And that only scratches the surface of food in the City....great Middle-Eastern, and Italian (usually overpriced), Thai and Ethiopian (Japanese Restaurants are first rate too!)--let's just say look at your phone book and you'll find almost anything you want.

Up on 112th and Broadway, on the northeast corner you can even see the FACADE that was used as the external view of the Diner that Seinfeld and his friends dined at. The interior is low scale though...a typical cheap Diner inside.

Oh, and check out the 57th street Deli if you want some great Deli food and it's still there, South of Central Park. Hey you guys are making me hungry. Fortunately I'm only a bus-ride away from the ORIGINAL Peking Duck House here in the Capital city itself!

    Have fun! Feel better..

i work on wall st and broadway but yes, i probably don't have time to hang much due to work...

just walking around in NYC is a sight btw. downtown is pretty pricy when it comes to food. so if you have to pay for the food yourself without getting reimbursed, probably go to chinatown or in the outerboroughs. Getting a one-week unlimited metrocard would be good.

Hey, it was great seeing you, Alex. I figured what was left on the Metro card would at least cover part of the trip you made out here. Always a good time when you're talking to another Polkie. Sorry I'm not too adventurous when it comes to food, but Fridays is always good, regardless.

And there's always an open invitation to any Polkies who want to stop out at my place!
