Just wanted to let you guys know -

The website www.sparkfun.com (Sparkfun Electronics) is giving away $100 worth of free parts on Thursday, January 7th, 2010.

The only catch that I know of is that you need to pay for shipping.

    Apparently you can pick the items you want first and keep it in your cart until tomorrow. The website is probably going to be busy then.

    Too bad its not a better site like Mouser or Digikey. I could really use a replenishing of some standard caps. Nothing comes up for me under General parts nor under soldering. So far, I can't find anything worth getting.

    OK, maybe I can stock up on heatshrink and some other odds and ends.

    Its a pretty cool concept none the less.

    Our site has been up and down today from the unprecedented load we're seeing. We're tuning our entire site, top to bottom and inside and out to handle this torrent. We're also shaving off a few features of the website (temporarily) to make everything faster, such as rating comments. After Free Day has passed we'll re-enable everything we've disabled to weather the storm.

    Of course, I can't get the webpage to come up today...
    The sale starts at 9am MST, but it looks like it will be nearly impossible to get in on this. It will only be for the 1st thousand customers, then its done.

    Looks like their servers are very busy.

    Anyways, I have in my cart some soldering supplies, a DMM, and some screwdrivers. I don't really need anything else.

    Still waiting here. When I was in the cart page the "Free Day" offer was still available. Not sure about now, that was a few minutes ago.

    Frustrating, but I need to buy these things anyways for my EE lab course. And I don't want to buy it from the school, way overpriced here!

    That site is going to be down for hours, blame it on greed. (not you guys that actually use / need the stuff they pedal - it's all the dunderheads that are doing it just to do it that are ruining it for you)

    Its dead, its done. They've given away $100,000 and no more free stuff. I wasted hours on this for nothing. I managed to get to the point where I entered my CC number, but couldn't get past that until it came up as 'confirm', but the free option was gone. Makes me nervous they have my CC# and I've nothing to show for it.

    I got past that point, but it didn't show a -$100 credit. So I don't know what's going to happen. I needed the stuff anyways.

    We didn't have any of them when I was in school studying EE in 90's...we had to call to make orders:eek:
