Need opinion - RM75s with Sony STRDN1000

Hi, I bought the Polk RM75 speakers and a Sony STRDN1000 receiver during boxing week and before I set it up I just want to know if this setup should be fine. I'm trying to get opinions from different people because I don't know much about any of this.

I don't want to know what would be better, I just want to make sure I won't run into any problems.

One main reason I'm asking is because the receiver's power per channel is 110 watts and on the speakers specs, Polk suggests a 20-100 watts per channel receiver. I have been told to buy a receiver with a little more power per channel than recommended for the speakers.

I've also seen such a setup sold in a package at Future Shop so my guess would be I'm fine but I'm still asking.

Thanks

Hello bela, and welcome to Club Polk. Not knowing much about either the speakers or the AVR, and just going by the power ratings for both my opinion is you will be fine. Keep in mind that most AVR power ratings are for only 2 channels driven, and then drop off considerably for every channel you add after that. When it's all said and done with 5 or 7 channels driven it's not uncommon for that 110W to be cut almost in half. No worries though, the RM series is 8 ohms and easy to drive. Enjoy your new setup.

    +1,

That Sony does not have 110 watts in 5 channels...no way! And even if it did it would NOT harm your speakers...too much power is better than too 'little' because to little will allow you to clip the amp faster, reach distortion levels and blow your speakers.

    Great, thanks for the replies!

I did a little research and I found out my receiver's max power is 250 watts so at 5 channels I should get around 50 per channel then. I also found someone that has the same receiver and he said he's outputting about 37.5 watts per channel on a 7 channel setup.

I received my cabling and stands this week and will set it up tomorrow! I can't wait. :)
