bonjours and HELLO!!!!

ive been following this site silently for the past LONG while... ever since my first polk set of RM6000s + psw450. i remember being blown away at the clarity of the highs and deepness of the base while watching LOTR - gandalf vs the fire thing - 20 times over and over... but i digressss...

years down the road i dedicated some side funds into a brand-spanking-new system. kinda of a big jump for a novice HT builder.

i now have collected..
1x csia6
2x rtia7
2x rtia5
2x fxia4
1x psw125
1x psw450 (cant let go of this bad boy)
ALL modestly powered by my yammy HTR6180

what would be the next *good* addition (doesnt have to be GREAT)?
can anyone with similar components suggest any upgrades?
i want to play with bi-amping but am a bit scared to do it wrong... even after all my research.

i do about 50-30-20 musicmoviesgames.

I would venture to say...a bigger badder sub. :D

    or....a new AVR with pre-outs.

    Knucklehead, and tonyb

thanks for your replies and the welcome

i believe this model does have preouts..

although ive read that it takes 4x more watts to even get a significant increase in db. right now i believe im pushing 105 rms (according to spec) and its plenty enough volume to fill my basement. what amp would you suggest i look into to relieve some load off my AVR? im guessing a 110wpc (insert name here)? how many channels should i look for?

You don't buy an amp to get more volume my friend. Anyway, a better sub, maybe a velo,Hsu,Svs,Revel,Epic, many to choose from, will do wonders and any 5 channel amp from Rotel,Adcom,Parrasound,Carver,Sunfire,ATI, B&K, and a host of others would do you fine.

i found a local add selling their ATI AT- 2505 5-Channel for under 1500$.

ive never really shopped for amps before. is this a good price?
even if it is. can anyone suggest something around the 500$ price-- anything over that will have to go into the long term.

a post in another thread just gave me nightmares of my AVR exploding.

    ... tonyb.
right... better amp means tighter sound?

Hello and welcome to Club Polk. A better amp can mean a more pleasurable listening experience at a lower volume, better clarity, overall sound, presence and less stress on the amp itself.

That said, are you using two different types of subs on the same system right now?

That is a nice amp for what it's worth. You can try a 2 or 3 channel amp so your fronts are all amped and let the receiver do the rest. 5 hundies should be no problem.

tonyb, im gonna start some shopping for a 2 ch amp from the names you suggested-- thank you!! its nice to get some footing when it comes to prices..

treitz3, yes i am running two subs. and the difference is night and day between them both -- i actually stacked them cuz i was able to tell which sub was in which corner.

the 125 is crispy and extra clean.
but i can actually FEEL the 450.

My advice would be to lose the lesser of the two subs. Reason being is that they may be canceling each other out on certain frequencies. Plus, if you sell it, you'll have more $$$ to put toward your amp. ;)

Uh, that'd be pretty hard unless your AVR has pre-ins, which I don't think I've ever seen.

You can pick up something like an Emotiva XPA-3 for $500-600, or even a UPA for RTiA's since they're easier to drive.

    bean,

i just did a quick google on the emotiva. looks pretty sweet.
i just asked them if they ship to canada.

does anyone else know a good company that will ship to montreal?

    bean,

taking a closer look at those emotiva amps, they look pretty sweet. the quote i got back for delivery to montreal was reasonable for a brand new amp with those specs.

would you suggest the Upa-2 (with future upgrade of another upa-2) or.

or is bi-amping worth the extra money to go for the xpa series?
