Week 17 in the NFL: That's all folks!

Well, Week 17. It's all ended. Makes me sad. Baseball is coming up again but still 2-3 months away depending on how much you follow spring training.

But still, that was a hell of a season! The big guns at the start have fallen from grace and none of the top 4 teams occupying Number 1 and 2 seeds in the playoffs (bye teams) are not in the playoffs at all this year. Carolina, NYG, Tennessee and Pittsburgh are out of it and have been since Week 14 or 15.

The Vikings, Saints, Colts and Patriots aren't so invincible anymore. The Cowboys, Chargers and Packers are dark horses in the playoffs and they are hungry. The Bengals took the division after a shaky start and the Ravens barely made it in to the playoffs after a good start. The Chiefs trounced the once dominant Broncos. It was a roller coaster ride!

But this last week, only a couple game decided playoff berths. Jets and Bengals, Jets got in and the Bengals didn't even show up. The other one was so meh I can't even remember what the big hubbub was. The only game with playoff implications that made any kind of difference was the Cowboys-Eagles game. That was an incredible game with major implications. It panned out exactly the opposite of how every newscast and newspaper in Philly was predicting and Dallas destroyed the battered Eagles chances at a first round bye. On top of that they punished the Eagles offense relentlessly in a defensive display that has to be in the top 5 of all time. Add to that the Eagles are the Cowboys record of the first 2nd straight shutout. It set up a playoff game for next Saturday that I have canceled plans to be around to watch. I have a feeling Dallas is going to blow it but then again, 6 weeks ago I predicted Dallas going 1 for 4 in the last 5 games and not even making the playoffs and they went 3 for 4 with the best defensive games they've played since names like Ken Norton Jr, Charles Haley, Mark Tuinei, Leon Lett and Mark Steponowski were on the defensive roster. It was helped out by the large number of stupid penalties Philly had as well as the turnovers. The Eagles better get their act together because that is going to be one very tough out. The Cowboys are on fire at the perfect time and with the home field advantage, Philly has a long uphill battle.

Speaking of Philly. What happened? They went from popular heels for signing Vick and then to media darlings...for using Vick and now, they are questioned every step. If the Eagles don't get passed Dallas, I see changes. If they do then even though they need to make changes, they won't. Philly needs to send McNabb out to pasture or trade him off to...like...the Browns for a draft pick or something. His receivers are spectacular but he can't throw to them. He throws in to double coverage and other impossible situations even when he has open men in other parts of the field. To make it worse, he throws at feet, way over heads, behind players and in other uncatchable situations. The only thing he's good at it handing it to Westbrook. But he has a hard time even doing that. Exhibit A being the fumbled snap which was supposed to be a handoff but ended up being a cough up to Ratliff. It's a shame because the Eagles have fielded yet another "almost" team. Andy Reid is ok but only because his assistant coaches and support staff are honestly tops in the league. Get rid of McNabb and see how it goes. Then decide on Reid. I hear Cowher is considering a return and will be looking for a gig. *HINT* *HINT* Philly. He'd be perfect for the job!

Redskins canned Zorn. It's a shame too. Give a guy a crap QB and a washed up defensive star that you paid too much for and get ticked off when he can't do anything with it. The Redskins are making a play for Shannahan and I think that's the wrong fit. Jerry needs to can Wade and install a shot of Shannahan. He doesn't fit the Redskins. They should can Campbell and keep Zorn.

I was disappointed in the Giants. The defense is pathetic and it shouldn't be. The offense is pathetic as well and it shouldn't be. The entire roster could be a list of pro-bowl selections and they let Father Time and his band of Nordic merry makers waltz right over them. The only thing that has to change in NY is that they have to find their groove again with a healthy roster. Hopefully they get back in to it next year.

Speaking of the Vikings, I wasn't impressed. They didn't do anything particularly special. I think the Vikings just played a crap team and ran the gamut, par for the course. Makes me wonder about the staying power in the playoffs since there are 4 teams in the NFC, in the playoffs, that can ruin the day for them. Green Bay is hungry and after it's regular season embarrassment, has a good chance of kicking down the doors at the Metrodome to kick keister, to hell with the names. Dallas and Philly both have brutal defenses that can shutdown the Vikings offense completely like both of them have done to opponents in the past 6 games...hell, the entire season. Lastly the Saints are capable of out gunning the Vikings. Vikings fans should be very worried.

I didn't really watch much else so I'm open to hearing analysis. The Cowboys-Eagles game was a big deal around here this week. All I heard was boisterous, arrogant and ignorant Eagles fans in my face telling me how the Cowboys are going to lose like they do every year. Makes that goose egg all the more satisfying. Not that I'm gloating 'cause there is a good chance it could go the other way on Saturday. But there is an equally good chance it could be a repeat performance.

So how'd your team do?

I just love the weekly Vikings rant from you. Just curious, if they win the Super Bowl this year, will they still suck in your view?

I was impressed with the way they played, and hope they use the week of to solidify a few things, like their secondary which has been a weak spot. I have no real concern on offense except they have not been able to find a way to get AP involved for about 6 weeks now. If they are not able to get him going, it will be a very short stay in the playoffs...

You're an ****. I did not rant. I gave analysis. You're the only one who thinks it's a rant and you're the only one who gets his panties in a bunch over it. I don't mind the Vikings. I'll dislike Brett Favre until the end of my days unless he personally does something really cool for me, personally. I can't stand Vikings fans because they get insufferable more often then not. But honestly, you are my new reason for not liking the Vikings. You're such a tool I'm surprised you don't have a Home Depot price tag stuck to your head. Your mental masturbation is insufferable and your screwed up priorities match only your screwed up perception of reality.

But since you can't figure this out for yourself, I'll tell you. I don't like you. BUT! The fact that I don't like you does not guide my ire towards the Vikings and Father Time. You are a waste of time and any response or word directed in your general direction is, in my mind, a waste of time as well. Just because I post something critical of the Vikings does not mean I posted it with you in mind. You honestly aren't that important. Get over yourself.

His opinion of how the Vikings did this last game, and how they will fare in the playoffs was actually very mellow. It was in no way a "rant".

In the meantime, I'm happy to see that the Pack got a near-shutout vs Arizona. Gives them a 2-game streak going into the first round of the playoffs against...wait a minute...Arizona?

Someone needs to re-think the playoff scheduling.

Well the Philly-Dallas game is going to be a repeat of yesterday afternoon as well as the Bengals-Jets will be rehashed from last night. I think I'd like to see something different as well but it is what it is.

I like the Packers chances though. I think they are going to run over Arizona. Makes me wonder who they will face though. All the schedules have "TBD" for the 2nd round of playoffs.

    sarcasm
    –noun
    1. harsh or bitter derision or irony.
    2. a sharply ironical taunt; sneering or cutting remark

There was nothing ironic about your statements, they were bitter jabs at me because of my view of the Vikings-Giants game. It was not sarcasm at all but a personal attack poorly disguised as a lame attempt at humor at my expense.

Meeting me personally to buy me a beer? Yeah, it'll never happen.

I myself am a Vikings (And Brett Favre, sorry lol) fan and am a bit worried. Iver the last few games before yesterday, there was little in the way of offensive line production: Favre getting hit almost instantly whenever he dropped back and AP finding no holes. AP has been held to under 100 yards for at least 3 weeks now, probably more. That just doesn't normally happen. The secondary is showing weakness, and that wasn't too much of an area of concern before. The offensive line and secondary needs to show up if we hope to go all the way. Favre can't do it on his own; AP needs a chance. How well Percy Harvin plays come playoff time will have a huge impact I think, cuz that man can make a huge play whenever he touches the ball. Vikes should involve him a bit more in the offense if AP can't seem to find his stride. I'm worried about Green Bay too, given that they were swept by us and are on a roll now, while we seem to be faltering. Will they have a chip on their shoulder? Then again, we played very well against them both times this season. But..that was when we were on a roll and they were faltering. Favre has played phenomenally both outings; can he do it again in the playoffs?

Bottom line is, the Vikings are not the Vikings without a consistent Adrian Peterson and a stifling defense, so both need to start showing up if they want to win the big one. I'd hate to go one and done after such a phenomenal season, and I'm sure Saints fans feel the same way.

I think it'll make for a good game. I just wonder if AZ will come out with a little bit more. They did have a lot of 2 and 3rd string in which the Packers kept mostly 1st string in until the 3rd and 4th quaters. Don't get me wrong they still played very well, I just hope they keep it up next week and do the same thing. They seem to have been getting much better in terms of penalities and that was really killing them, last in the NFL is just sad...
But I agree I was dissapointed with the Vikings vs Giants game. I really thought the Giants would do a lot better than they did but oh well.

For me I dislike Farve after he left and blah blah crap that happened. I just want to see what the Vikings will be like without him, because I'm sure its going to change.

I was somewhat surprised how flat the Eagles looked, but I still expect Dallas to choke in the playoffs. I believe these 2 teams will meet again next week, and there is no chance Dallas will beat them 2 weeks in a row.

    Oh, here's the obligatory:

    Da Bears

And man, if the Colts make an early exit from the playoffs, heads will roll in Indy...

Hey, at least my Falcons can now say they've had two winning seasons in a row, for the first time in franchise history! My other team, the Lions, not looking so good, just as they have every year since Matt Millen came in and ruined the franchise.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

The thing about the Lions though is that they have an excuse that isn't "'cause we suck" anymore. The Lions were actually plagued by injuries to some key players this year. I mean at one point in the season they were on their 3rd string QB and at one point half of their starting offense was injured. I think next season looks promising for the Lions.

Agreed, especially if they can pull a couple stron picks in the draft. I don't think their year will be next year but they will be a fun team to watch.

For some reason only NO and AZ worry me against the Vikes. I've seen too many Cowboys games this season and I don't think they have that much to offer. GB isn't going to do it, and while I originally worried about the Eagles I don't see them taking a playoff game from the Vikings.
