Well I got a Mits 55411, 55" RPTV. Pretty good deal (2124.99 delivered) as it is being replaced in a month or so, and the 0% finacing is not bad. I also bought the extended 5 year warranty (315.00)
Went ahead and ordered Direct TV with a HD receiver.
By Wednesday we should have something to watch other than the 2 channels we can get with the rabbit ears on our 19" TV.

Congrats Russ,
I have the Mits 65511 and love it. Of course it does need some tweeking. First off lower that contrast down before you get burn in. I would sugest that you get hooked up with Spot. Lots of great info on that site.

They delivered my Mits 55411 last night, oh man what did I do before it? Just kidding. The TV is great, but man the picture quality of MOST programming is not very good, and when you put it on a 55" screen you can see how crappy it is.
For the programming I can receive, the HD Direct TV option is not worth it, I ended up paying 430.00 (insted of the normal 499.99) for 3 freaking channels, and 2 of them are premium channels (HBO and Showtime). BUT, how in the world do you get an HD ready TV and not have SOMETHING to show? Atlanta market has several channel Over The Air, but where I am it is not possible to recieve them. Why wouldn't DTV feed HD major network feeds?
Anyway I have a lot of tweeking and such to do, but this thing out of the box is very nice.Dodd - Battery Preamp

hoosier21,
DTV will not be carrying HD OTA for your local channels due to the bandwidth constraints. I've been thinking about adding antenna for the local HD broadcast, but don't want to deal with those fugly until I can be assured it's worth it (i.e. more programming)I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
Russ,
Here in Mich we get all the major station digitally. And there is a ton of HD programming available. I don't get cable or Sat. Are you sure that Alanta's station aren't broad casting digitly? When I first got my set I could not get the stations in, but put an antenia in the attic and bingo perfectly clear picture.
Also Russ I would go to that web site I gave up SPOT. There are a lot of ways of making your picture better. Even the crappy stuff will look good. Remember turn the contrast down, and soften up the picture a little when watching no hd. (Sharp on 1/4)
One other thing to check is the convergance. Mine was way off when I bought the set. Took me a couple of hours to line everything up, but it made a huge differents.
Take care. If you want E-Mail me. -
Janusch thanks for the info, Yes the Atlanta stations are broadcasting HD, but I am too far from ATL and I have a hill in the way and a few thousand trees and well you get the idea, no OTA for me I am sure, but I am planning on checking to make sure.
