What's the yellow stuff in the Polk tweeters I often see in for sale ads?

Can it be got rid off and does it affect the performance of them?

    There is no yellow stuff in the SL2000 tweeter. What you are seeing is a 20 year old mylar dome that has yellowed a bit over time.
